Mimarlık; 05. Mimarlık Fakültesi; 01. Çankaya ÜniversitesiThis paper focuses on the influence of occupant behavior on the energy performance of dwellings in the Dutch context. The aim of this study was to identify, how the energy performance of a dwelling is sensitive to the behavior of its occupants. To this end, the study's methodology adopted the Monte Carlo method of analysis, one of the most commonly used means of analyzing the approximate distribution of possible results on the basis of probabilistic inputs. Data related to occupant behavior were generated from a survey of 313 households in The Netherlands. The Dutch reference row house was used to test the behavioral patterns, and the test results were determined through simulation-based modeling. The key input parameters were presence, heating control patterns (thermostat and radiators), and ventilation control patterns (windows, grilles, and mechanical ventilation), while minimum indoor resultant temperature and heating energy demand served as the key output parameters. The results showed that both heating energy demand and minimum indoor resultant temperature were most sensitive to the thermostat setting and most robust in relation to the radiator setting.Article Citation - WoS: 1Effects of Sound Absorption Materials on Reverberation Time According To Their Positions in the Square Plan and High Ceiling Rooms(Gazi Univ, Fac Engineering Architecture, 2021) Kurtay, Cuneyt; Harputlugil, Gulsu Ulukavak; Yaman, Muammer; 36110; 05.02. In this study, an evaluation has been made over the reverberation time for the speech action of the existing Iraq-Najaf Islamic University Alawiya Conference Hall. Within the scope of the study, the control of the reverberation time affecting the subjective and objective room acoustics parameters has been examined, the relationship between the reverberation time and the surface absorptions of the room have been examined. Reverberation time on existing situation was determined by making in situ measurements. In order to control the reverberation time of the existing hall, the materials selected according to the sound absorption coefficients have been positioned differently and alternative models have been developed. The reverberation times of the alternative models were determined using the ECOTECT v.5.20 computer simulation program used for acoustic analysis, and their geometric acoustics analysis was performed using the ray tracing method. By comparing the models, the surface absorptions have been analyzed to obtain the appropriate reverberation time in room for speech action. As a result of the study, the effects of the use of walls, ceiling and floor finishing materials and surface absorptions on the reverberation time have been evaluated within the scope of improvement for speech action in the halls with square plan, flat floor and high ceiling (min 6 m).Article Citation - WoS: 3Citation - Scopus: 3Exploring Fire Safety Conditions of Double Skin Facades(Gazi Univ, Fac Engineering Architecture, 2024) Aslar, Eylem Ezgi; Harputlugil, Gulsu Ulukavak; 05.02. Among the security measures, the most important risk is the risk of fire. For this reason, the issue of fire risk, spread and safety is considered as one of the criteria that should be considered from the building design stage. Within the scope of this study, building models with the same floor height, different plan and facade types, designed in 3D, were analyzed in the fire simulation program called PyroSim. Based on the data obtained as a result of the analyzes, the results of the temperature, smoke and flame spread at the time of fire according to the facade and plan types are presented in tables. As a result of the data obtained, it was determined that box-type systems in double-layer facades are the most problematic facade type in terms of evacuation of living creatures. In terms of smoke spread, it has been revealed that the systems that continue uninterruptedly along the facade pose a problem when the access and spread to other floors are taken into account. It is necessary to consider fire safety as a design problem. Çankaya ÜniversitesiOccupants make a passive contribution to the building energy balance by their very presence; they also can have an active role through activities like opening windows, changing thermostat set points, tuning radiator switches or lighting switches, etc. Furthermore, in existing buildings, occupants also play a role in decisions regarding any interventions in the fabric and systems, especially where occupants own the building. In this paper, an evaluation of the survey results applied to occupants of dwellings in order to reveal effects of occupant behavior on energy consumption. The survey was applied to occupants of dwellings presented in four different climatic zones. There are two main issues aimed in the survey. Firstly, it is aimed to find out behavior patterns which are mostly effective on energy consumption. The other aim is to query the perception of occupants on comfort conditions and energy saving potential. The results of the survey showed that dominant occupant behavior which have an effect on energy consumption very significantly is opening/closing window. A major amount of occupant is aware of saving electricity; thus %92.9 of occupants prefer energy saving lamps for artificial lighting. Another essential result of survey is, in a general manner, sensitivity on energy consumption and satisfaction of comfort are increasing by education level increases.
