Examining the Spatial Development of Ankara's Cinnah Street in the Context of Civil Architectural History

Abstract

Ankara'nın başkent seçildikten sonra açmıştır Cumhuriyet'in ilke ve inkılaplarına göre şekillenen modern bir şehir olması amacıyla gerçekleşen imar hareketleri ve artan göç, şehirde büyük bir değişim ve dönüşüme yol açmıştır. Bu dönemde halkın her kesiminden Ankara'ya gelenler için en önemli sorunlardan biri konut eksikliği olmuştur. Modernizm akımının da ivmesi ile modern konut üretme denemelerinin arttığı, yeni konut ihtiyacının mimarlık ortamını dönüştürdüğü bu süreçte Ankara önemi bir sivil mimari dönüşüm yaşamıştır. Günümüzde anıtsal yapılar kadar değerli görülmeyen bu dönemin sivil mimarlık ürünleri, gelecek nesillere aktarılması gereken, toplumun değişimi hakkında önemli bilgiler veren eserler olma özelliğini taşımaktadır. Bu tez çalışmasında, Ankara'nın başkent oluşundan itibaren önemli bir yere sahip olan, bugünkü adı ile Cinnah Caddesi'nin mekânsal gelişimi kronolojik olarak incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın amacı, Cinnah Caddesi boyunca var olan sivil mimarlık eserlerini kent ve mimari gelişim açısından bağlamından koparmadan incelemektir. Cinnah Caddesi üzerinde bulunan sivil mimari eserlerin, mimarlarının ve yapım süreçlerinin incelenmesi ve belgelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Çalışmada, Ankara'nın tarihsel gelişimi, konut üretiminin tarihi ve modern sivil mimarlık eserlerinin gelişimi literatürdeki kaynaklar ve harita analizleri ile desteklenerek ele alınacaktır. After Ankara was selected as the capital of the Republic, the construction movements and increased migration that took place to make Ankara a modern city shaped according to the principles and reforms of the Republic led to a great change and transformation in the city. During this period, one of the most important problems for those who came to Ankara from all sectors of society was the lack of housing. With the acceleration of the Modernism movement, Ankara experienced a significant çivil architectural transformation during this period when attempts to produce modern housing increased and the need for new housing transformed the architectural environment. The civil architecture products of this period, which are not considered as valuable as monumental buildings today, are works that should be passed on to future generations and provide important information about the change of society. In this thesis, the spatial development of Cinnah Street, which has had an important place since Ankara became the capital, is examined chronologically. The aim of the study is to scrutinize the works of civil architecture along Cinnah Street in terms of urban and architectural development without detaching them from their context. It is aimed to examine and document the civil architectural works on Cinnah Street, their architects and construction processes. In the study, the historical development of Ankara, the history of housing production and the development of modern civil architecture works will be discussed with the support of sources in the literature and map analysis.
