    Comparative law data show that states establish a connection between marriage and nationality according to their approach to the family institution. Along with the idea of ensuring the unity of nationality between family members, the role of marriage in losing and acquiring nationality has also gained importance. International legal texts shaped by developments in human rights and women's rights have also affected the nationality laws of states. In this study, first of all, developments on the effect of marriage on nationality in the major international conventions will be emphasized. Later, information on the relationship between marriage and nationality will be given in the citizenship laws of various states. In the last part of the study, the acts adopted within the history of Turkish Nationality Law and their applications will be discussed. In this framework, the decision of the court decisions about how the administration evaluates the demants for acquiring nationality by marriage and the disputes emerging when these demands are denied, will be examined.
