Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 3Structure Preserving Model Analysis for Power System Transient Stability(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2020) Mohammed, M.A.; Flaih, F.M.F.; Abd, M.K.; Alobaidi, W.; Al-Jhayyish, A.M.H.An important problem in transient stability analysis of interconnected power systems is determining the effect of fault-clearing-time or stability. The classical approach to solving this issue is to simulate the dynamic model of the system with the help of computer software during and after the fault. This requires a different simulation for each clearings time. The Lyapunov theory is used in an alternative approach to determine a region of attraction about the stable post-fault equilibrium. In this paper, a structure preserving dynamic model that enables the construction of a suitable Lyapunov function is proposed. MATLAB software is applied to find a suitable clearing trip time from the Lyapunov function for a stable electrical system. While ETAP software is used to confirm the obtained time. The results from both software are compared and analyzed. Therefore, the proposed approach opens new prospects in the field of power system stability. © 2020 IEEE.
