One of the most noteworthy dimensions related with board composition is board gender diversity. Although, many research is undertaken in developed countries related with board gender diversity, related research is still at infancy in developing and emerging market economies. This study aims to contribute to the literature by comparison of important board composition dimensions, that are board gender diversity, presence of independent directors and board size between Turkey and Nigeria. The findings indicate no statistically significant difference between the two countries in terms of board gender diversity and underrepresentation of female directors. According to the research findings, the underrepresentation of female directors is more obvious in Turkey. On the other hand, there exists statistically significant difference in terms of board size and presence of independent board members among the two countries. (C) 2014 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.Master Thesis The impect ofcorporate governanceon the performance of listed companies: the comparison of Nigeria and Turkey(2014) Karaye, Abubakar BalarabeThis research analyzes the impact of corporate governance dimensions on the financial performance of corporations listed in Nigerian Stock Exchange and Istanbul Stock Exchange (Borsa Istanbul). The research used the total sample of 214 Nigerian and Turkish corporations, 94 corporations were sampled from Nigerian Stock Exchange listed corporations and 120 corporations were sampled from Istanbul Stock Exchange. Linear regression analysis was used to analyze the relationships between corporate governance internal mechanisms which constitute of board size, board independence, board gender diversity, CEO duality, board committees and ownership concentration, with financial performance. T-test was used to analyze the existence and the extent of significant differences between the mechanisms used in the Nigerian listed corporations and Turkish listed corporations. The findings indicate that there is a statistically significant positive relationship between corporate governance committee and financial performance of corporations. Additionally, the presence of female independent directors has a negative but minor relationship with the financial performance of corporations. All other mechanisms used in this research have a positive but weak relationship with the financial performance of the corporations. Besides, at country level it is found that the application of the mechanisms differed between Nigeria and Turkey. Key Words: Corporate Governance, Board of Directors, Financial Performance.
