Article Does A Correlation Exist Between Fluid Intelligence And Creativity?(2019) Torun Yazıhan, Nakşidil; 276238The aim of the study was to investigate the associations between fluid intelligence and creativity among young adults. The sample consisted of 26 university students who were recruited through convenience sampling method. The Raven Standard Progressive Matrices (RSPM) 9 item-form and a divergent thinking test were used to measure fluent intelligence and creativity, respectively. In order to examine the associations between creativity and fluent intelligence correlational analysis was applied. The Pearson’s correlation coefficient revealed that there was no significant relationship between the tests of divergent thinking and RSPM total score. On the other hand, the results showed a significant positive correlation between the RSPM visuospatial factor and both fluency (r=.47, p<.01) and flexibility (r=.41, p<.01) dimensions of the divergent thinking test. As a result, we suggest that certain basic processes regarding fluid intelligence (e.g. visual spatial reasoning) and creativity operate through common and similar mechanisms. Future studies could investigate the association between these constructs by using neuro-imagining method and focus on how these skills can be integrated into real life situations.Article Examining the Effects of Chronic Pain on Memory Processes within the Framework of the Biopsychosocial Model(2022) Üste, Aleyna Nur; Kaynak, Hande; 101097Chronic pain, one of the most common types of pain, has been linked to impaired cognitive abilities such as memory difficulties. The current article aims to provide a review of studies examining how the biological, psychological, and social components affect memory in patients with chronic pain. Studies have found that chronic pain patients mostly complain about memory deficits, and the biopsychosocial model is widely used to better understand why these patients have such deficits. The biopsychosocial model also enables each patient to cope with cognitive and behavioral difficulties by developing a unique intervention model. First, the biological component of model argues that chronic pain causes biological changes in patients and negatively affects cognitive processes, such as attention and memory. Second, the psychological component discusses the comorbidities such as depression and anxiety disorder caused by chronic pain and investigates how they influence memory performance. Third, the social component suggests that patients experience adverse impacts of chronic pain due to several impairments, such as increased healthcare costs, and insufficient sleep. The review concludes that memory performance in patients with chronic pain is affected by the biological, psychological, and social components, and these components interact with each other and cause impairments in memory.
