Article A Freely Damped Oscillating Fractional Dynamic System Modeled By Fractional Euler-Lagrange Equations(Sage Publications Ltd, 2018) Agila, Adel; Baleanu, Dumitru; Baleanu, Dumitru; Eid, Rajeh; Irfanoglu, Bulent; 56389The behaviors of some vibrating dynamic systems cannot be modeled precisely by means of integer representation models. Fractional representation looks like it is more accurate to model such systems. In this study, the fractional Euler-Lagrange equations model is introduced to model a fractional damped oscillating system. In this model, the fractional inertia force and the fractional damping force are proportional to the fractional derivative of the displacement. The fractional derivative orders in both forces are considered to be variable fractional orders. A numerical approximation technique is utilized to obtain the system responses. The discretization of the Coimbra fractional derivative and the finite difference technique are used to accomplish this approximation. The response of the system is verified by a comparison to a classical integer representation and is obtained based on different values of system parameters.Article A New Analysis of the Fornberg-Whitham Equation Pertaining to A Fractional Derivative With Mittag-Leffler-Type Kernel(Springer Heidelberg, 2018) Kumar, Devendra; Baleanu, Dumitru; Singh, Jagdev; Baleanu, Dumitru; 56389The mathematical model of breaking of non-linear dispersive water waves with memory effect is very important in mathematical physics. In the present article, we examine a novel fractional extension of the non-linear Fornberg-Whitham equation occurring in wave breaking. We consider the most recent theory of differentiation involving the non-singular kernel based on the extended Mittag-Leffler-type function to modify the Fornberg-Whitham equation. We examine the existence of the solution of the non-linear Fornberg-Whitham equation of fractional order. Further, we show the uniqueness of the solution. We obtain the numerical solution of the new arbitrary order model of the non-linear Fornberg-Whitham equation with the aid of the Laplace decomposition technique. The numerical outcomes are displayed in the form of graphs and tables. The results indicate that the Laplace decomposition algorithm is a very user-friendly and reliable scheme for handling such type of non-linear problems of fractional order.Article A new causal discovery heuristic(Springer, 2018) Prestwich, S. D.; Özkan, İbrahim; Tarim, S. A.; Ozkan, I.; 6641; 169580Probabilistic methods for causal discovery are based on the detection of patterns of correlation between variables. They are based on statistical theory and have revolutionised the study of causality. However, when correlation itself is unreliable, so are probabilistic methods: unusual data can lead to spurious causal links, while nonmonotonic functional relationships between variables can prevent the detection of causal links. We describe a new heuristic method for inferring causality between two continuous variables, based on randomness and unimodality tests and making few assumptions about the data. We evaluate the method against probabilistic and additive noise algorithms on real and artificial datasets, and show that it performs competitively.Article A New Fractional Model For Convective Straight Fins With Temperature-Dependent Thermal Conductivity(Vinca inst Nuclear Sci, 2018) Kumar, Devendra; Baleanu, Dumitru; Singh, Jagdev; Baleanu, Dumitru; 56389The key aim of this work is to present a new non-integer model for convective straight fins with temperature-dependent thermal conductivity associated with Caputo-Fabrizio fractional derivative. The fractional energy balance equation is solved by using homotopy perturbation method coupled with Laplace transform method. The efficiency of straight fin has been derived in terms of thermo-geometric fin parameter. The numerical results derived by the application of suggested scheme are demonstrated graphically. The subsequent correlation equations are very helpful for thermal design scientists and engineers to design straight fins having temperature-dependent thermal conductivity.Article A New Hybrid Algorithm for Continuous Optimization Problem(Elsevier Science inc, 2018) Farnad, Behnam; Baleanu, Dumitru; Jafarian, Ahmad; Baleanu, Dumitru; 56389This paper applies a new hybrid method by a combination of three population base algorithms such as Genetic Algorithm (GA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Symbiotic Organisms Search (SOS). The proposed method has been inspired from natural selection process and it completes this process in GA by using the PSO and SOS. It tends to minimize the execution time and in addition to reduce the complexity. Symbiotic organisms search is a robust and powerful metaheuristic algorithm which has attracted increasing attention in recent decades. There are three alternative phases in the proposed algorithm: GA, which develops and selects best population for the next phases, PSO, which gets experiences for each appropriate solution and updates them as well and SOS, which benefits from previous phases and performs symbiotic interaction update phases in the real-world population. The proposed algorithm was tested on the set of best known unimodal and multimodal benchmark functions in various dimensions. It has further been evaluated in, the experiment on the clustering of benchmark datasets. The obtained results from basic and non-parametric statistical tests confirmed that this hybrid method dominates in terms of convergence, execution time, success rate. It optimizes the high dimensional and complex functions Rosenbrock and Griewank up to 10(-330) accuracy in less than 3 s, outperforming other known algorithms. It had also applied clustering datasets with minimum intra-cluster distance and error rate. (C) 2017 Elsevier Inc. For such an analysis we assign a suitable dynamic operator which is in limit-circle case at infinity. We also show that this operator is a simple maximal dissipative operator. Constructing the inverse operator we obtain some information about the spectrum of the dissipative operator. Moreover, using the Cayley transform of the dissipative operator we pass to the contractive operator which is of the class With the aid of the minimal function we obtain more information on the dissipative operator. Finally, we investigate other properties of the contraction such that multiplicity of the contraction, unitary colligation with basic operator and CMV matrix representation associated with the contraction.Article A new method for investigating approximate solutions of some fractional integro-differential equations involving the Caputo-Fabrizio derivative(Springer international Publishing Ag, 2017) Baleanu, Dumitru; Baleanu, Dumitru; Mousalou, Asef; Rezapour, Shahram; 56389We present a new method to investigate some fractional integro-differential equations involving the Caputo-Fabrizio derivation and we prove the existence of approximate solutions for these problems. We provide three examples to illustrate our main results. By checking those, one gets the possibility of using some discontinuous mappings as coefficients in the fractional integro-differential equations.Article A novel numerical approach for a nonlinear fractional dynamical model of interpersonal and romantic relationships(Mdpi, 2017) Singh, Jagdev; Baleanu, Dumitru; Kumar, Devendra; Al Qurashi, Maysaa; Baleanu, DumitruIn this paper, we propose a new numerical algorithm, namely q-homotopy analysis Sumudu transform method (q-HASTM), to obtain the approximate solution for the nonlinear fractional dynamical model of interpersonal and romantic relationships. The suggested algorithm examines the dynamics of love affairs between couples. The q-HASTM is a creative combination of Sumudu transform technique, q-homotopy analysis method and homotopy polynomials that makes the calculation very easy. To compare the results obtained by using q-HASTM, we solve the same nonlinear problem by Adomian's decomposition method (ADM). The convergence of the q-HASTM series solution for the model is adapted and controlled by auxiliary parameter h and asymptotic parameter n. The numerical results are demonstrated graphically and in tabular form. The result obtained by employing the proposed scheme reveals that the approach is very accurate, effective, flexible, simple to apply and computationally very nice.Conference Object Adopting Virtual Reality as a Medium for Software Development Process Education(Assoc Computing Machinery, 2018) Güleç, Ulaş; Gulec, Ulas; Yilmaz, Murat; Yılmaz, Murat; Isler, Veysi; O'Connor, Rory, V; Clarke, Paul; 47439Software development is a complex process of collaborative endeavour which requires hands-on experience starting from requirement analysis through to software testing and ultimately demands continuous maintenance so as to mitigate risks and uncertainty. Therefore, training experienced software practitioners is a challenging task. To address this gap, we propose an interactive virtual reality training environment for software practitioners to gain virtual experience based on the tasks of software development. The goal is to transport participants to a virtual software development organization where they experience simulated development process problems and conflicting situations, where they will interact virtually with distinctive personalities, roles and characters borrowed from real software development organizations. This PhD in progress paper investigates the literature and proposes a novel approach where participants can acquire important new process knowledge. Our preliminary observations suggest that a complementary VR-based training tool is likely to improve the experience of novice software developers and ultimately it has a great potential for training activities in software development organizations.Article Almost local stability in discrete delayed chaotic systems(Springer, 2017) Nategh, Mehdi; Baleanu, Dumitru; Baleanu, Dumitru; Taghizadeh, Elham; Gilani, Zahra GoliThis work studies dynamic of delayed discrete chaotic systems with bounded and unbounded delays. The time lags appear in additive which is coupled with a smooth function and nonadditive forms. It has been shown that, in both additive and nonadditive cases, the primal (non-delayed) system is neutral to the bounded delay to possess an attractive fixed point. Nevertheless, if a nonadditive and unbounded delay is supposed to affect a chaotic and measure preserving system locally, then the delay function might be sensitive to initial states. A local stabilization to the dynamics of Logistic and Gaussian maps are made and creation of attractive fixed points is illustrated.Article An algorithm for Hopf bifurcation analysis of a delayed reaction-diffusion model(Springer, 2017) Kayan, S.; Merdan, H.; 49206We present an algorithm for determining the existence of a Hopf bifurcation of a system of delayed reaction-diffusion equations with the Neumann boundary conditions. The conditions on parameters of the system that a Hopf bifurcation occurs as the delay parameter passes through a critical value are determined. These conditions depend on the coefficients of the characteristic equation corresponding to linearization of the system. Furthermore, an algorithm to obtain the formulas for determining the direction of the Hopf bifurcation, the stability, and period of the periodic solution is given by using the Poincare normal form and the center manifold theorem. Finally, we give several examples and some numerical simulations to show the effectiveness of the algorithm proposed.Article An Efficient Computational Technique for Fractal Vehicular Traffic Flow(Mdpi, 2018) Kumar, Devendra; Baleanu, Dumitru; Tchier, Fairouz; Singh, Jagdev; Baleanu, Dumitru; 56389In this work, we examine a fractal vehicular traffic flow problem. The partial differential equations describing a fractal vehicular traffic flow are solved with the aid of the local fractional homotopy perturbation Sumudu transform scheme and the local fractional reduced differential transform method. Some illustrative examples are taken to describe the success of the suggested techniques. The results derived with the aid of the suggested schemes reveal that the present schemes are very efficient for obtaining the non-differentiable solution to fractal vehicular traffic flow problem.Article An Efficient Nonstandard Finite Difference Scheme for a Class of Fractional Chaotic Systems(Asme, 2018) Hajipour, Mojtaba; Baleanu, Dumitru; Jajarmi, Amin; Baleanu, Dumitru; 56389In this paper, we formulate a new nonstandard finite difference (NSFD) scheme to study the dynamic treatments of a class of fractional chaotic systems. To design the new proposed scheme, an appropriate nonlocal framework is applied for the discretization of nonlinear terms. This method is easy to implement and preserves some important physical properties of the considered model, e.g., fixed points and their stability. Additionally, this scheme is explicit and inexpensive to solve fractional differential equations (FDEs). From a practical point of view, the stability analysis and chaotic behavior of three novel fractional systems are provided by the proposed approach. Numerical simulations and comparative results confirm that this scheme is also successful for the fractional chaotic systems with delay arguments.Article An examination of personality traits and how they impact on software development teams(Elsevier, 2017) Yilmaz, Murat; Yılmaz, Murat; O'Connor, Rory V.; Colomo-Palacios, Ricardo; Clarke, Paul; 55248Context Research has shown that a significant number of software projects fail due to social issues such as team or personality conflicts. However, only a limited number of empirical studies have been undertaken to understand the impact of individuals' personalities on software team configurations. These studies suffer from an important limitation as they lack a systematic and rigorous method to relate personality traits of software practitioners and software team structures. Objective: Based on an interactive personality profiling approach, the goal of this study is to reveal the personality traits of software practitioners with an aim to explore effective software team structures. Method: To explore the importance of individuals' personalities on software teams, we employed a two-step empirical approach. Firstly, to assess the personality traits of software practitioners, we developed a context-specific survey instrument, which was conducted on 216 participants from a middle-sized soft ware company. Secondly, we propose a novel team personality illustration method to visualize team structures. Results: Study results indicated that effective team structures support teams with higher emotional stability, agreeableness, extroversion, and conscientiousness personality traits. Conclusion: Furthermore, empirical results of the current study show that extroversion trait was more predominant than previously suggested in the literature, which was especially more observable among agile software development teams. The regularized long-wave equation is a very important mathematical model in physical sciences, which unfolds the nature of shallow water waves and ion acoustic plasma waves. The existence and uniqueness of the solution of the regularized long-wave equation associated with Atangana Baleanu fractional derivative having Mittag-Leffler type kernel is verified by implementing the fixed-point theorem. The numerical results are derived with the help of an iterative algorithm. In order to show the effects of various parameters and variables on the displacement, the numerical results are presented in graphical and tabular form. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. The power scintillation index, also known as the irradiance flux variance, for the received irradiance is evaluated in weak oceanic turbulence by using the Rytov method. This lets us further quantify the associated performance indicators, namely, the aperture averaging factor and the average bit-error rate (). The effects on the UWOC link performance of the oceanic turbulence parameters, i.e., the rate of dissipation of kinetic energy per unit mass of fluid, the rate of dissipation of mean-squared temperature, Kolmogorov microscale, the ratio of temperature to salinity contributions to the refractive index spectrum as well as system parameters, i.e., the receiver aperture diameter, Gaussian source size, laser wavelength and the link distance are investigated. Simulation results are presented in order to show the fractional behavior of the oscillators, and the classical behavior is recovered when is equal to 1.Article BER of asymmetrical optical beams in oceanic and marine atmospheric media(Elsevier Science Bv, 2017) Baykal, Yahya; 7812The average bit-error-rate (BER) performances of asymmetrical optical Gaussian beams propagating in oceanic and marine atmospheric turbulence are examined. Both type of media are assumed to exhibit weak turbulence. The effect of asymmetry factor on the BER performance are investigated in conjunction with the oceanic turbulence parameters of the ratio of temperature to salinity contributions to the refractive index spectrum, the rate of dissipation of mean-squared temperature and the rate of dissipation of kinetic energy per unit mass of fluid, and with the marine atmospheric link parameters of the link length and the structure constant. Also, the variations of the BER against the source size of various asymmetrical beams are scrutinized in both oceanic and marine atmospheric media.Article Caputo-Fabrizio derivative applied to groundwater flow within confined aquifer(Asce-amer Soc Civil Engineers, 2017) Atangana, Abdon; Baleanu, Dumitru; Baleanu, Dumitru; 56389The model of the movement of subsurface water via the geological formation called aquifer was extended using a newly proposed derivative with fractional order. An alternative derivative to that of Caputo-Fabrizio with fractional order was presented. The relationship between both derivatives was presented. The new equation was solved analytically using some integral transforms. The exact solution is therefore compared to experimental data obtained from the settlement of the University of the Free State in South Africa. The numerical simulation shows the agreement of the experimental data with an analytical solution for some values of fractional order. (C) 2016 American Society of Civil Engineers.
