Article A new and efficient numerical method for the fractional modeling and optimal control of diabetes and tuberculosis co-existence(Amer inst Physics, 2019) Jajarmi, Amin; Baleanu, Dumitru; Ghanbari, Behzad; Baleanu, Dumitru; 56389The main objective of this research is to investigate a new fractional mathematical model involving a nonsingular derivative operator to discuss the clinical implications of diabetes and tuberculosis coexistence. The new model involves two distinct populations, diabetics and nondiabetics, while each of them consists of seven tuberculosis states: susceptible, fast and slow latent, actively tuberculosis infection, recovered, fast latent after reinfection, and drug-resistant. The fractional operator is also considered a recently introduced one with Mittag-Leffler nonsingular kernel. The basic properties of the new model including non-negative and bounded solution, invariant region, and equilibrium points are discussed thoroughly. To solve and simulate the proposed model, a new and efficient numerical method is established based on the product-integration rule. Numerical simulations are presented, and some discussions are given from the mathematical and biological viewpoints. Next, an optimal control problem is defined for the new model by introducing four control variables reducing the number of infected individuals. For the control problem, the necessary and sufficient conditions are derived and numerical simulations are given to verify the theoretical analysis.Article A new fractional model and optimal control of a tumor-immune surveillance with non-singular derivative operator(Amer inst Physics, 2019) Baleanu, D.; Baleanu, Dumitru; Jajarmi, A.; Sajjadi, S. S.; Mozyrska, D.; 56389In this paper, we present a new fractional-order mathematical model for a tumor-immune surveillance mechanism. We analyze the interactions between various tumor cell populations and immune system via a system of fractional differential equations (FDEs). An efficient numerical procedure is suggested to solve these FDEs by considering singular and nonsingular derivative operators. An optimal control strategy for investigating the effect of chemotherapy treatment on the proposed fractional model is also provided. Simulation results show that the new presented model based on the fractional operator with Mittag-Leffler kernel represents various asymptomatic behaviors that tracks the real data more accurately than the other fractional- and integer-order models. Numerical simulations also verify the efficiency of the proposed optimal control strategy and show that the growth of the naive tumor cell population is successfully declined. Published under license by AIP Publishing.Article A new fractional wavelet approach for the simultaneous determination of ampicillin sodium and sulbactam sodium in a binary mixture(Pergamon-elsevier Science Ltd, 2006) Dinç, E; Baleanu, Dumitru; Baleanu, DB; 6981A new application of the fractional wavelet transform (FWT) was proposed for the simultaneous determination of ampicillin (AP) and sulbactam (SB) in a pharmaceutical combination for injection. FWT approach is a new powerful tool for removing noise and irrelevant information from the absorption spectra. Cardinal information having higher peak amplitude, eliminated noise, sharp peaks with shrinking width of spectral range was obtained by the application of FWT procedure to the original absorption spectra. In this paper, FWT approach was subjected to the data vector of the UV-signals obtained from AP and SB in the wavelength range of 211.5-313.8 nm. Derivative transform was applied to the original absorption signal together with its FWT generalization. The calibration graphs for AP and SB were obtained by measuring the FWT and usual derivative amplitudes at zero-crossing points. The method validation was carried out by using the synthetic mixture analysis. Our proposed FWT approach was compared with the usual derivative spectrophotometry and chemometric methods (CLS, PCR and PLS) and a good agreement was reported. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.Article A zero-crossing technique for the multidetermination of thiamine HCl and pyridoxine HCl in their mixture by using one-dimensional wavelet transform(Elsevier, 2003) Dinç, E; Baleanu, Dumitru; Baleanu, D; 56389A new zero-crossing technique based on one-dimensional wavelet transform (WT) was developed and applied on a commercial vitamin product and binary mixtures containing thiamine HCl and pyridoxine HCl in the presence of the interference of the analysed signals. We selected from the data of the UV-Vis absorption spectra a signal consisting of 1150 points corresponding to the concentration range 8-32 mg/ml for both vitamins and we subjected it to one-dimensional continuous WT Mexican (MEXICAN) and Meyer (MEYER). Since the peaks of the transformed signals were bigger than original ones a zero crossing technique was applied to obtain the regression equations. The validity of Beer-Lambert law was assumed for the transformed signals. An appropriate scale setting was choosing to obtain an alternative calibration for each method. The basic concepts about wavelet method were briefly explained and MATLAB 6.5 software was used for one-dimensional wavelet analysis, The obtained results were successfully compared among each other and with those obtained by other literature methods. The developed method is rapid, easy to apply. not expensive and suitable for analysing of the overlapping signals of compounds in their mixtures without any chemical pre-treatment. Hence, exogenous insulin administration is necessary for Type I diabetes patients. In this study, to estimate the states that are not directly available from the Bergman minimal model a high-order sliding mode observer is proposed. Then fractional calculus is combined with sliding mode control (SMC) for blood glucose regulation to create more robustness performance and make more degree of freedom and flexibility for the proposed method. Then an adaptive fractional-order SMC is proposed. The adaptive SMC protect controller against disturbance and uncertainties while the fractional calculus provides robust performance. Numerical simulation verifies that the proposed controllers have better performance in the presence of disturbance and uncertainties without chattering.Article An analysis on the relationship between safety awareness and safety behaviors of healthcare professionals, Ankara/Turkey(Oxford Univ Press, 2020) Uzuntarla, Fatma; Kucukali, Serhat; Uzuntarla, Yasin; 20413Objectives: This descriptive study aims to examine the relationship between the safety awareness of healthcare professional and their safety behaviors. Methods: The study was carried out on 418 healthcare professionals working in a training and research hospital in Ankara/Turkey. The survey method was used as data collection tool. The questionnaire consisted of 3 sections and 18 questions. First section consisted of questions on sociodemographic characteristics and, second section consisted of the awareness scale and third section consisted of safety behaviors scale. Results: The safety awareness and safety behaviors are scored on a scale from 1 (completely disagree) to 5 (completely agree). The safety awareness and safety behaviors has an average score of 3.85 +/- 0.81 and 3.56 +/- 0.82, respectively. The safety awareness and safety behavior levels of healthcare professionals were found to be high. Conclusion: A significant positive correlation was found between safety awareness and safety behaviors and it was concluded that the increase in safety awareness led to an increase in safety behavior.Article An application of derivative and continuous wavelet transforms to the overlapping ratio spectra for the quantitative multiresolution of a ternary mixture of paracetamol, acetylsalicylic acid and caffeine in tablets(Elsevier Science Bv, 2005) Dinç, E; Baleanu, Dumitru; Özdemir, A; Baleanu, D; 56389Quantitative multi resolution of tablets and ternary mixtures of paracetamol (PAR), acetylsalicylic acid (ASP) and caffeine (CAF) having strongly overlapping spectra was accomplished by two graphical transform methods as ratio spectra first derivative-zero crossing and ratio spectra-continuous wavelet transform-zero crossing (ratio spectra CWT-zero crossing) methods. In this study, ratio spectra derivative-zero crossing and ratio spectra CWT-zero crossing methods are based on the use of transformed signals of the ratio spectra and their calibration graphs were obtained by measuring the dA/dlambda and CWT amplitudes of the ratio spectra corresponding to zero crossing points. For the comparison purpose. PLS calibration method was applied to predict the content of the same mixtures containing the subject active Compounds. The obtained calibrations were tested by using the synthetic mixtures and standard addition technique and they applied to the simultaneous determination of PAR, ASP and CAF in commercial pharmaceutical preparation. The obtained results were statistically compared with each other as well as those obtained by HPLC method and they showed good agreement. The most of the ecological model do not have exact analytic solution, so they proposed a numerical technique for an approximate solution. In the proposed method, they have implemented the higher order term into the fractional Euler method to enhance the precise solution. Further, the present attempt is aimed to discuss the solutions of the FPPM with uncertainty (fuzzy) initial conditions. The initial conditions of the predator-prey model were taken as fuzzy initial conditions due to the fact that the ecological model highly depends on uncertain parameters such as growth/decay rate, climatic conditions, and chemical reactions. Finally, the numerical example manifest that the proposed method is authentic, applicable, easy to use from a computational viewpoint and the acquired outcomes are balanced with the existing method (HPM), which shows the efficiency of the proposed method.Article Analysis of reciprocity of cos-Gaussian and cosh-Gaussian laser beams in a turbulent atmosphere(Optical Soc Amer, 2004) Eyyuboglu, HT; Baykal, Y; 7688; 7812In a turbulent atmosphere, starting with a cos-Gaussian excitation at the source plane, the average intensity profile at the receiver plane is formulated. This average intensity profile is evaluated against the variations of link lengths, turbulence levels, two frequently used free-space optics wavelengths, and beam displacement parameters. We show that a cos-Gaussian beam, following a natural diffraction, is eventually transformed into a cosh-Gaussian beam. Combining our earlier results with the current findings, we conclude that cos-Gaussian and cosh-Gaussian beams act in a reciprocal manner after propagation in turbulence. The rates (paces) of conversion in the two directions are not the same. Although the conversion of cos-Gaussian beams to cosh-Gaussian beams can happen over a wide range of turbulence levels (low to moderate to high), the conversion of cosh-Gaussian beams to cos-Gaussian beams is pronounced under relatively stronger turbulence conditions. Source and propagation parameters that affect this reciprocity have been analyzed. (C) 2004 Optical Society of America.Article Associated Factors of Psychological Symptoms Among Unemployed Turkish Adults: The Role of Personality Factors and Rumination(Sage Publications inc, 2020) Tuna, Ezgi; Balci, Seyma; 163887Unemployment has been associated with adverse mental health outcomes including depression and suicide. In the last decades, unemployment rates have increased substantially in Turkey; yet, factors and mechanisms that play a role in experiencing psychological symptoms among unemployed individuals are not well understood. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of personality characteristics on psychological symptoms among unemployed Turkish adults and to test the mediating role of rumination as a dysfunctional cognitive strategy. The sample consisted of 217 unemployed Turkish adults who completed self-report measures on neuroticism, external locus of control, rumination, and psychological symptoms. The results of the structural equation modeling indicated that rumination partially mediated the relationship between personality variables (i.e., neuroticism and external locus of control) and psychological symptoms, thus verifying the hypothesis of the study. The direct paths from trait neuroticism and external locus of control to psychological symptoms were also significant. Results revealed that a tendency to attribute future outcomes to external factors and an increased tendency to experience negative emotions are associated with engaging passively in rumination, which in turn predicts psychological symptoms. Interventions are suggested to focus on effective coping strategies along with increasing individuals' perceived control over life and future.Article Asymptotic solutions of fractional interval differential equations with nonsingular kernel derivative(Amer inst Physics, 2019) Salahshour, S.; Baleanu, Dumitru; Ahmadian, A.; Salimi, M.; Ferrara, M.; Baleanu, D.; 56389Realizing the behavior of the solution in the asymptotic situations is essential for repetitive applications in the control theory and modeling of the real-world systems. This study discusses a robust and definitive attitude to find the interval approximate asymptotic solutions of fractional differential equations (FDEs) with the Atangana-Baleanu (A-B) derivative. In fact, such critical tasks require to observe precisely the behavior of the noninterval case at first. In this regard, we initially shed light on the noninterval cases and analyze the behavior of the approximate asymptotic solutions, and then, we introduce the A-B derivative for FDEs under interval arithmetic and develop a new and reliable approximation approach for fractional interval differential equations with the interval A-B derivative to get the interval approximate asymptotic solutions. We exploit Laplace transforms to get the asymptotic approximate solution based on the interval asymptotic A-B fractional derivatives under interval arithmetic. The techniques developed here provide essential tools for finding interval approximation asymptotic solutions under interval fractional derivatives with nonsingular Mittag-Leffler kernels. Two cases arising in the real-world systems are modeled under interval notion and given to interpret the behavior of the interval approximate asymptotic solutions under different conditions as well as to validate this new approach. This study highlights the importance of the asymptotic solutions for FDEs regardless of interval or noninterval parameters. An important question is whether impairment in executive functioning in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is independent of dysfunction in attention. Attentional control is a subcomponent of executive functioning that is mediated by frontal lobe processing. In the current study, we investigated whether attentional control is deficient in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. Attentional control processes were investigated through conflict adaptation and conflict frequency paradigms. These neuropsychological paradigms were assessed by using the Simon, Flanker and Stroop tasks. We additionally analysed post-error slowing data within these tasks. Error processing is another index of cognitive control that is mediated by frontal lobe functioning. Our sample consisted of 14 healthy adults and 24 patients with untreated moderate-severe obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. Results indicated that attentional control is partially dysfunctional among patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. Attentional control processes were deficient when focal attention (Flanker task) processes were involved, but were intact when observed using the Simon and Stroop tasks. A non-significant trend in post-error slowing data suggested that error processing, assessed with the Flanker task, was diminished among patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. These results support the view that obstructive sleep apnea syndrome leads to some amount of frontal lobe dysfunction, and that attentional control and error processing might be particularly affected by obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.Article Average intensity and spreading of cosh-Gaussian laser beams in the turbulent atmosphere(Optical Soc Amer, 2005) Eyyuboglu, HT; Baykal, Y; 7688; 7812The average intensity and spreading of cosh-Gaussian laser beams in the turbulent atmosphere are examined. Our research is based principally on formulating the average-intensity profile at the receiver plane for cosh-Gaussian excitation. The limiting cases of our formulation for the average intensity are found to reduce correctly to the existing Gaussian beam wave result in turbulence and the cosh-Gaussian beam result in free space (in the absence of turbulence). The average intensity and the broadening of the cosh-Gaussian beam wave after it propagates in the turbulent atmosphere are numerically evaluated versus source size, beam displacement, link length, structure constant, and two wavelengths of 0.85 and 1.55 mum, which are most widely used in currently employed free-space-optical links. Results indicate that in turbulence the beam is widened beyond its free-space diffraction values. At the receiver plane, analogous to the case of free space, this diffraction eventually leads to transformation of the cosh-Gaussian beam into an oscillatory average-intensity profile with a Gaussian envelope. Corresponding assertions in terms of Saigo, Erdelyi-Kober, Riemann-Liouville, and Weyl type of fractional integrals are also presented. Some interesting special cases of our two main results are presented. We also point out that the results presented here, being of general character, are easily reducible to yield many diverse new and known integral formulas involving simpler functions.Article Chemometric Determination of Naproxen Sodium and Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride in Tablets by HPLC(Pharmaceutical Soc Japan, 2006) Dinç, E; Baleanu, Dumitru; Özdemir, A; Aksoy, H; Üstündag, Ö; Baleanu, D; 6981; 26096; 105547A new chemometric determination by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with photodiode array (PDA) detection was implemented for the simultaneous determination of naproxen sodium and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride in tablets. Three chemometric calibration techniques, classical least squares (CLS), principle component regression (PCR) and partial least squares (PLS) were applied to the peak area at multiwavelength PDA detector responses. The combinations of HPLC with chernometric calibration techniques were called HPLC-CLS, HPLC-PCR and HPLC-PLS. For comparison purposes the HPLC method called the classic HPLC method was used to confirm the results obtained from combined HPLC-chemometric calibration techniques. A good chromatographic separation between two drugs with losartan potassium as an internal standard was achieved using a Waters Symmetry (R) C18 Column 5 mu m 4.6 +/- 250 mm and a mobile phase containing 0.2 m acetate buffer and acetonitrile (v/v, 40 : 60). The multiwavelength PDA detection was measured at five different wavelengths. The chromatograms were recorded as a training set in the mobile phase. Three HPLC-chemometric calibrations and the classic-HPLC method were used to test the synthetic mixtures of naproxen sodium and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride in the presence of the internal standard. The HPLC-chemometric approaches were applied to real samples containing drugs of interest. The experimental results obtained from HPLC-chemometric calibrations were compared with those obtained by a classic HPLC method.Article Comparative analysis on wavelet-based detection of finite duration low-amplitude signals related to ventricular late potentials(Iop Publishing Ltd, 2004) Mousa, A; Yilmaz, AVentricular late potentials (VLPs) are considered as a noninvasive marker of patients with myocardial infarction, who are prone to the development of ventricular tachycardia. This paper investigates the effects of variations in physical properties of myocardial infarcts in terms of their effects on the parametric variations in VLP analysis. A sufficiently large set of signals underlining the behavior of physical parameters was employed to represent the effect of physical size, position, orientation and type of infarct. The approximated signals are variations from real electrocardiography signals by adding potentials representing late potentials based on duration, frequency, amplitude and position. The aim is not to exactly model VLP but rather to generate an approximate set of signals to examine the performance of the standard methods for different possibilities in infarct dynamics. We investigate some of the detection approaches together with their related assumptions, and try to pinpoint the drawbacks and inaccuracies of these methods and also their assumptions. The three widely accepted criteria-QRS duration, root-mean-square and duration of the signal at the end of QRS for VLP detection-were used in the investigation. Results from the application of these parameters to the set of signals are presented. In addition we investigate the physical nature of an infarct and list a number of possible reasons that might be the cause of a low success rate for the detection of additive potentials. To improve the performance of the common methods, two more wavelet transform parameters are added to those of the standard methods. The method derived from this analysis is presented as an alternative means for the detection of late signals named as delayed potentials, a more general class that includes VLP as a subset.Article Comparative spectral analysis of veterinary powder product by continuous wavelet and derivative transforms(Pergamon-elsevier Science Ltd, 2007) Dinc, Erdal; Baleanu, Dumitru; Kanbur, Murat; Baleanu, Dumitru; 6981; 36107Comparative simultaneous determination of chlortetracycline and benzocaine in the commercial veterinary powder product was carried out by continuous wavelet transform (CWT) and classical derivative transform (or classical derivative spectrophotometry). In this quantitative spectral analysis, two proposed analytical methods do not require any chemical separation process. In the first step, several wavelet families were tested to find an optimal CWT for the overlapping signal processing of the analyzed compounds. Subsequently, we observed that the coiflets (COIF-CWT) method with dilation parameter, a = 400, gives suitable results for this analytical application. For a comparison, the classical derivative spectrophotometry (CDS) approach was also applied to the simultaneous quantitative resolution of the same analytical problem. Calibration functions were obtained by measuring the transform amplitudes corresponding to zero-crossing points for both CWT and CDS methods. The utility of these two analytical approaches were verified by analyzing various synthetic mixtures consisting of chlortetracycline and benzocaine and they were applied to the real samples consisting of veterinary powder formulation. The experimental results obtained from the COIF-CWT approach were statistically compared with those obtained by classical derivative spectrophotometry and successful results were reported. All rights reserved.Article Comparative study of the continuous wavelet transform, derivative and partial least squares methods applied to the overlapping spectra for the simultaneous quantitative resolution of ascorbic acid and acetylsalicylic acid in effervescent tablets(Elsevier Science Bv, 2005) Dinç, E; Baleanu, Dumitru; Ozdemir, A; Baleanu, D; 56389The simultaneous spectrophotometric determination of ascorbic acid (AA) and acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) in effervescent tablets in the presence of the overlapping spectra was accomplished by the continuous wavelet transform (CWT), derivative spectrophotometry (DS) and partial least squares (PLS) approaches without using any chemical pre-treatment. CWT and DS calibration equations for AA and ASA were obtained by measuring the CWT and DS amplitudes corresponding to zero-crossing points of spectra obtained by plotting continuous wavelet coefficients and first-derivative absorbance values versus the wavelengths, respectively. The PLS calibration was constructed by using the concentration set and its full absorbance data consisting of 850 points from 220 to 305 urn in the range of 210-310 nun. These three methods were tested by analyzing the synthetic mixtures of the above drugs and they were applied to the real samples containing two commercial pharmaceutical preparations of subjected drugs. A comparative study was carried out by using the experimental results obtained from three analytical methodologies and precise and accurate results were obtained. The stochastic influenza model is comparatively more pragmatic versus the deterministic influenza model. The effect of influenza generation number holds in the stochastic model. If the value of this number is less than one, this situation will help us to control the disease in a population. A greater than one value of this threshold number shows the persistence of disease to become endemic. The proposed structure for the stochastic influenza model as stochastic non-standard finite difference scheme conserve all vital characteristics like positivity, boundedness and dynamical consistency defined by Mickens.
