Article 1915 Events, New Issues and Reconciliation Within the Framework of Persistence of Conflict and the Concept of Intractable Conflict(2017) Çoban Öztürk, Ebru; 105587; 01. Çankaya ÜniversitesiThere are some concrete problems, with roots in the past, that have remained unsolved between Turkish and Armenian societies. These problems have become deeper through the years and have negatively affected the relationship between the two societies, and by now have been transformed into a chronic conflict. Nevertheless, this type of conflict does not involve physical violence today, yet it has been transformed into intractable conflict with its all defining features. This study attempts to investigate the relationship between the two societies around the concept of intractable conflict and the socio-psychological foundations of it. The socio-psychological foundation of the Turkish-Armenian conflict has generated a completely new bundle of problems. For both societies to follow a positive line of relationship, a due attention should be paid not only to the concrete problems, but also to the socio-psychological repertoire of intractable conflicts and find solutions accordingly. This article will apply Daniel Bar-Tal’s method of analysis when using the concept of intractable conflict that analyzes the said socio-psychological repertoire.Article 50. Yıldönümünde Ankara Anlaşması Perspektifinden Türkiye-Avrupa Birliği İlişkilerine Kısa bir Bakış(2014) Akşemsettinoğlu, Gökhan; 104466; 03.05. Siyaset Bilimi ve Uluslararası İlişkiler; 03. İktisadi ve İdari Birimler Fakültesi; 01. Çankaya ÜniversitesiThe European Union is perhaps the most important organization, where the idea “to be incorporated with the West,” one of the most important basis of the Turkish political life and Turkish foreign policy, has become tangible. The relations between Turkey and the European Union became official with the Ankara Agreement signed in the year 1963 and which entered into effect on 1 December 1964 and has been in the workings up to date. This article was prepared to remind us of the main highlights of the Ankara Agreement on the occasion of its fiftieth anniversary on entering into effect, and to also give a brief summary of the relations, close to half a century, between Turkey and the European Union. This article reviews the Turkey-EU relations chronologically, the ups and downs of the relations, the problems encountered and explains the paths taken for the solution of the problems with historical examples. This article emphasizes the structure of this agreement which progresses when the geo-strategic importance of Turkey increases and which takes its shape according to conjunctural changes.Article A Chronıcle Of Evolvıngturkısh-Serbıan Relatıons A Century After The Balkan Wars(2013) Ekinci, Didem; 17316; 03.05. Bankacılık ve Finans; 03. İktisadi ve İdari Birimler Fakültesi; 01. Çankaya ÜniversitesiIAS 8 defines the concept of accounting policy as "the specific principles, bases, conventions, rules and practices applied by an entity in preparing and presenting financial statements". Within the framework of this concept, this research that is derived from International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) contributes to the accounting literature by focusing on the alternative accounting policies' debate related to presentation and recognition issues in the European, Australian and Turkish context and concludes that there is an influence of local accounting policies over IFRS practice in Turkey and this influence still exists in Europe and Australia. This shows that as long as diversity in accounting policies of IFRS is present, entities are expected to be inclined to select their local accounting policies by leading to comparability of financial statements within the country rather than between countries in the IFRS context.Article A Fuzzy AHP approach for selecting a global supplier in pharmaceutical industry(2012) Taş, Ayşegül; 29252; 01. Çankaya ÜniversitesiOur study looks into the strategy that should be pursued for raw material procurement by a pharmaceutical firm operating in Turkey. In this paper, pharmaceutical research companies and food industry chemists operating in the global market in the pharmaceutical industry are examined and a suitable supply strategy is suggested for a company operating in Turkey under the specified criteria. The supplier selection is a multi-criterion problem which includes both qualitative and quantitative criteria. This paper proposes a fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (fuzzy-AHP) to efficiently tackle both quantitative and qualitative criteria involved in selection of global supplier in pharmaceutical industry. Four main criteria and thirteen sub-criteria were identified for supplier selection in this problem. The number of suppliers to be selected under these criteria was identified as four. A numerical example presented illustrates the different selection criteria to select the best supplier in pharmaceutical industry.Publication A new classifier design with fuzzy functions(Springer-Verlag Berlin, 2007) Celikyılmaz, Aslı; Türkşen, I. Burhan; Aktaş, Ramazan; Doğanay, M. Mete; Ceylan, N. Başak; 112010; 03.04. İşletme; 03. İktisadi ve İdari Birimler Fakültesi; 01. Çankaya ÜniversitesiThis paper presents a new fuzzy classifier design, which constructs one classifier for each fuzzy partition of a given system. The new approach, namely Fuzzy Classifier Functions (FCF), is an adaptation of our generic design on Fuzzy Functions to classification problems. This approach couples any fuzzy clustering algorithm with any classification method, in a unique way. The presented model derives fuzzy functions (rules) from data to classify patterns into number of classes. Fuzzy c-means clustering is used to capture hidden fuzzy patterns and a linear or a non-linear classifier function is used to build one classifier model for each pattern identified. The performance of each classifier is enhanced by using corresponding membership values of the data vectors as additional input variables. FCF is proposed as an alternate representation and reasoning schema to fuzzy rule base classifiers. The proposed method is evaluated by the comparison of experiments with the standard classifier methods using cross validation on test patterns.Article A Post - Keynesian Analysis of The Greek Crisis(2018) Erünlü, Zeynep; Güneri, Barbaros; 103521; 03.03. İktisat; 03. İktisadi ve İdari Birimler Fakültesi; 01. Çankaya ÜniversitesiThe purpose of this study is to analyze the causes of the Greece debt crisis and discuss about possible solutions for the Greek economy in Post - Keynesian perspective. In this framework, first, the establishment and evolution of the European Monetary Union will be briefly examined. Second, the effects of the monetary union on the Greek economy will be discussed. Then, the remedies for the crisis along with the measures taken within the scope of the rescue package adopted will be examined from a Post Keynesian perspective. At this point, Hyman Minsky’s Financial Instability Hypothesis and Michal Kalecki’s profit function will be used to analyze the reasons behind the crisis. Last but not least, Employer of the Last Resort Programme, which can be summarized as a program where the government takes into employment of anyone who is willing and able to work, will be discussed as a cure for the recovery.Article A System Design for Facilitating Human Resource Decisions in Small and Medium Sized Enterprises in Turkey(2015) Şengül, S. Specifically, the aim is to discover whether each of these four factors have any impact on the consumers ' recall of the ad and subsequent purchasing decisions. The results of this study should help foreign and domestic advertising agencies and their clients, already existing in or planning to enter the Turkish market, in understanding the Turkish consumers better.Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 2An Alternative Mean Reversion Test for Interest Rates(Central Bank Republic Turkey, 2018) Ozel, Ozgur; Ilalan, Deniz; 01. Çankaya Üniversitesi; 03.01. Bankacılık ve Finans; 03. İktisadi ve İdari Birimler FakültesiA number of empirical studies assert that interest rates are governed by unit root processes rejecting any form of reversion to a long term mean by resorting to certain tests, among which the Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF) is the most widely used one. In this study, we propose an alternative testing methodology that can be applied along with ADF test, in the sense that there are times where it can capture stationarity when the other fails to do so. Moreover, our test has more power than ADF test. As an application to real-data, we consider 10-year US and Turkish T-bond rates. (C) 2017 Central Bank of The Republic of Turkey. Çankaya ÜniversitesiWith the rapid rise of Internet, the number of consumers shopping online for consumer goods and services has grown dramatically. This growth in Internet shopping in many different cultures around the world has attracted the attention of researchers interested in what leads individuals to adopt this mode of shopping. Similar to the global trend, Turkish consumers are increasingly opting to use the Internet for their shopping purposes as well. With a population over 70 million people, Turkish market’s potential for online commerce is quite significant. The aim of this study is to examine male and female consumers’ online shopping behavior, usage patterns and the key elements that encourage online shopping.Article An Examination Of The Effects Of The February, 2001 Crisis (Turkey) On The Performances Of The Low-Q And High-Q Firms(2006) Karadağlı, Ece C.; Omay, Tolga; 08.02. Çankaya Meslek Yüksekokulu; 03.01. Bankacılık ve Finans; 03. İktisadi ve İdari Birimler Fakültesi; 08. Meslek Yüksekokulları; 01. Çankaya ÜniversitesiThis paper examines the effects of the February 2001 Economic Crisis (Turkey) on the low-Q and high-Q firms. In the study, our sample is composed of the firms that are actively being traded on Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE) during that time, and is divided into two sub-samples based on their Tobins' Q values. As firms with high Tobins' Q values are supposed to have lower debt levels we proposed them to be less affected by the crises: their debt repayment commitments are lower, although they are expected to be under the burden of higher interest rates. On the other hand, low-Q firms have incentives to overinvest due to the high levels of available free cash and they may be under the burden of some perquisites expenses. But because of the asset substitution affect, the investments undertaken by low-Q firms are expected to be safer projects while high-Q firms may have undertaken more risky projects. To test our hypothesis that the crisis would affect the low-and high-Q firms to differing extends, we construct the average mean excess returns of both sub-samples and use the Large Sample Test of Hypothesis About a Population Mean method. Our results mainly confirm our expectations: we found that the average mean excess negative returns of high-Q firms were higher than that of low-Q firms during the February 2001 Crisis, indicating that high-Q firms are more riskier in an economic crisis setting than low-Q firms, which in turn implies that the effects of the conflict between equityholders and debtholders dominate the affects of the conflict between managers and the shareholders.Article An examination of the major behavioral aspects of distribution channels in an export channel design(2012) Karadağlı, Ece; Aluftekin, Nilay; 03.01. Bankacılık ve Finans; 03. İktisadi ve İdari Birimler Fakültesi; 01. Çankaya ÜniversitesiThis paper concentrates on the behavioral aspects of distribution channels in an export channel design from the perspective of the exporter. Based on the argument that channel conflict and satisfaction are among the major determinants of channel efficiency and performance, the perceived degrees of channel conflict and satisfaction are examined as well as the three antecedents of channel conflict, namely the channel power, cultural distance and distribution system quality, as they are regarded among major factors affecting the channel conflict. In conducting the analysis, questionnaire survey was undertaken among 30 exporter companies that are members of Ankara Chamber of Commerce and Likert scaling technique is used. The findings from the ordinary least squares (OLS) regression analysis suggest that the Turkish exporter do not regard the level of exercised power in a marketing channel system and the cultural distance between the foreign channel member’ markets as important sources of conflict while the international distribution system quality seems to be perceived as a major source of channel conflict. The findings also suggest that there exists a close relationship between the perceived channel conflict and the channel members’ satisfaction.Article An Outline of Skilled Emigration from Turkey to OECD Countries: A Panel Data Analysis(2017) Acar, Elif Öznur; 48566; 03.06. Uluslararası Ticaret ve Finansman; 03. İktisadi ve İdari Birimler Fakültesi; 01. Çankaya ÜniversitesiTurkey provides rich evidence for the current international migration trends given its economic and demographic dynamics. The number of people moving overseas to settle permanently has been following an increasing trend in the recent decades, particularly remarkable for skilled and female groups. However, given the micro-level data limitations the migration outlook of Turkey is still quite bleak. The aim of this paper is to fill this gap and analyze the relationship between migration and human capital in the context of Turkish immigrants. First, aggregate trends of the Turkish emigrants in the 20 OECD destination countries by gender and educational level over the 1980-2010 period are examined using the IAB Brain Drain dataset. Next, a random effects panel estimation is applied to scrutinize the underlying dynamics of observed migration patterns adopting economic size, unemployment, demographic profile, urbanization and proximity as explanatory variables. The results reveal that gender, time and education are found as significantly related to international mobility trends, and the substantially left-skewedness of the distribution of Turkish emigrants along educational level is gradually fading away over time.Article An Outline of Skilled Emigration from Turkey to OECD Countries: A Panel Data Analysis(2017) Acar, Elif Öznur; 48566; 03.06. İktisat; 03. İktisadi ve İdari Birimler Fakültesi; 01. Çankaya ÜniversitesiThis paper examines the threshold conditions in financial integration and growth relationship for a large set of threshold variables and different income group of countries employing Panel Smooth Transition Regression Models. Except developing countries, our findings strongly indicate nonlinear dynamics and imply that the impact of financial integration on growth is asymmetric depending on a number of indicators such as countries' degree of institutional quality, financial sector development, trade openness, budget deficit, inflation volatility and the level of financial integration. Our results show that these threshold effects substantially differ for emerging and industrial countries. As far as whole set of countries is concerned, our findings imply that countries having developed financial systems, qualified institutions and stable macroeconomic environment benefit from financial integration. Moreover, threshold effects are stronger and different for emerging countries compared to the industrial countries. Unlike emerging economies, higher levels of financial integration and trade openness decrease benefits from financial openness for the industrial countries. Besides, high fiscal deficit has more pronounced negative effect on the growth of the industrialized countries compared to emerging economies and other indicators.Article Citation - WoS: 4Citation - Scopus: 4Analysis of Distinct Asymmetries in Financialintegration-Growthnexus for Industrial, Emerging and Developing Countries(Wiley, 2022) Ocal, Nadir; Yolcu Karadam, Duygu; 01. Çankaya ÜniversitesiThere are many predictors that determine the turnover intention of employees. Among these predictors, mobbing behaviour can be disruptive in the workplace since workplace deviance is a matter which most organizations wrestle today. Organizational commitment is an important variant for employees to achieve organizational success whereas ethical climate is the picture of an organization which demonstrates its' moral philosophy. This study examines the main effects of ethical climate, mobbing, and organizational commitment in predicting turnover intention among the sample of 166 employees, working in a municipality, particularly in Istanbul province, Turkey. The findings indicate that mobbing affect turnover intention positively, while ethical climate has no effect in estimating turnover intention. Study results also suggest that commitment (continuance and affective) is also found to be negatively related to turnover intention of employees. In addition, for Generation-X members, continuance commitment and for Generation-Y members, affective commitment has a significant effect on turnover intention. Çankaya ÜniversitesiIn this study, the potential of specific-sector clustering and the relevant decision-making criteria are identified for 10 provinces of Turkey based on the clustering approach and using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and through one-to-one interviews and surveys administered on 2,327 firms active in the textile and apparel sector. When identifying this potential, the clustering tendencies of companies with input-output relations and included in the value chain were also used in addition to survey data. At the end of the study, according to the data obtained through the AHP and the surveys held in 10 provinces, two provinces came to fore, meeting the highest number of criteria in terms of clustering potential. These are the provinces of Istanbul and Gaziantep. The provinces of Izmir and Bursa were identified as being closer to having a clustering potential compared to other provinces. In addition, it is expected that this study will make a significant contribution to literature as this study uses the AHP method for the first time in identifying the potential of clustering.Article Assessment of Turkey’s Innovation Performance during the European Union Candidacy Period(2021) Sakarya, Arif Orçun; 19342; 03.04. İşletme; 03. İktisadi ve İdari Birimler Fakültesi; 01. Çankaya ÜniversitesiTurkey is one of the countries that has taken part in innovation assessments by the European Union since the start of the candidateship period. The main goal of this study is to present an overview of Turkey’s long term innovation performance in comparison with the European Union. Within this framework an evaluation is conducted based on the indicators of European Innovation Scoreboard reports between 2003 and 2019. There includes a discussion of related strengths, weaknesses, and policies in progress as areas for improvement in Turkey. The main areas of strength, however, are related to SME capabilities, although further improvement is required regarding patent application and human resources.
