Book Part Citation - Scopus: 2A Multiple Criteria Ranking Method Based on Outranking Relations: An Extension for Prospect Theory(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2022) Karasakal, E.; Karasakal, Orhan; Karasakal, O.; Şentürk, H.; 216553; Endüstri MühendisliğiIn this study, Prospect Theory is integrated into a well-known multiple criteria ranking method, PROMETHEE. PROMETHEE considers the outranking relations among alternatives based on the preference functions. Prospect Theory evaluates the alternatives with a difference function based on gains and losses. The preference functions of PROMETHEE are modified to capture the choice behavior of the decision maker. The proposed method is a generalization of PROMETHEE that can handle the higher loss impact case as well as the usual equal loss and gain impact. The proposed method is compared with PROMETHEE, PT-PROMETHEE that is an extension of PROMETHEE with reference alternative, and the weighted sum method using an exemplary data set and Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking 2019 and 2020 data. The results show that rankings of alternatives change significantly when the impact of losses is larger than gains. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.Book Part Citation - Scopus: 0Analog and digital filter design(Springer Science and Business Media B.V., 2018) Gazi, O.; Gazi, Orhan; Elektronik ve Haberleşme MühendisliğiIn this chapter, we will study analog and digital filter design techniques. A filter is nothing but a linear time invariant (LTI) system. Any LTI system can be described using its impulse response. If the impulse response of a LTI system is known, then for any arbitrary input the system output can be calculated by taking the convolution of the impulse response and arbitrary input. This also means that filtering operation is nothing but a convolution operation. And filter design is nothing but finding the impulse response of a linear time invariant system. For this purpose, we can work either in time domain or frequency domain. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.Book Part Citation - Scopus: 0Channel Coding Theorem(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2018) Gazi, O.; Gazi, Orhan; 102896; Elektronik ve Haberleşme MühendisliğiIn this chapter, we will discuss the channel coding theorem in details. The physiological environment (body fluid) is considered to be extremely corrosive to metallic surfaces; and corrosion is one of the major problems to the widespread use of the metals in the human body since the corrosion products can cause infections, local pain, swelling, and loosening of the implants. Recently, the most common corrosion-resistant metallic biomaterials are made of stainless steels and titanium and its alloys along with cobalt chromium molybdenum alloys. It is well known that protective surface films of the alloys play a key role in corrosion of the metallic implants. Key documents on the corrosion behavior of the metallic biomaterials in human body have been compiled under this chapter as a review.Book Part Citation - Scopus: 0Design of a Versatile and Rapid Calculator for Oncological Computations(Nova Science Publishers, Inc., 2019) Dinçkal, Ç.; Dinçkal, Çiğdem; 26773; İnşaat MühendisliğiIn oncology, there exists many complicated and time-consuming computations for students, clinicians and medical researchers. Their wide ranging use, however, is still not realized due to a few fundamental issues including high material costs, relatively short history of applications and the gaps in the development of established standards. Design safety requires that all possible modes and mechanisms of failure are identified, characterized, and accounted for in the design procedures. This chapter provides a review of the failure types encountered in structural engineering applications of FRP and the preventive methods and strategies that have been developed to eliminate or delay such failures. As part of preventive measures, various non-destructive testing (NDT) and structural health monitoring (SHM) methods used for monitoring FRP applications are discussed with illustrative examples.Book Part Citation - Scopus: 1Finite element modeling of mechanical micromachining(CRC Press, 2017) Oliaei, S.N.B.; Demiral, Murat; Demiral, M.; Makine MühendisliğiThe knowledge about all these phenomena is necessary to fabricate microparts, satisfying required dimensional and geometrical tolerances and surface quality requirements. Therefore, developing predictive techniques to improve the quality of microparts has emerged as an important research area. Several approaches have been used to predict outputs of microcutting operations including analytical modeling, numerical techniques, molecular dynamics simulation, and experimental studies. As experimental studies are costly and time consuming and as they are only valid for the conditions and range of machining parameters used in the experiments, numerical methods are used as an alternative method to predict machining process outputs. © 2018 by Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.Book Part Citation - Scopus: 0Heterogeneous Sensor Data Fusion for Target Classification Using Adaptive Distance Function(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2021) Atıcı, B.; Karasakal, Orhan; Karasakal, E.; Karasakal, O.; 216553; Endüstri MühendisliğiAutomatic Target Recognition (ATR) systems are used as decision support systems to classify the potential targets in military applications. These systems are composed of four phases, which are selection of sensors, preprocessing of radar data, feature extraction and selection, and processing of features to classify potential targets. In this study, the classification phase of an ATR system having heterogeneous sensors is considered. We propose novel multiple criteria classification methods based on the modified Dempster–Shafer theory. Ensemble of classifiers is used as the first step probabilistic classification algorithm. Artificial neural network and support vector machine are employed in the ensemble. Each non-imaginary dataset coming from heterogeneous sensors is classified by both classifiers in the ensemble, and the classification result that has a higher accuracy ratio is chosen for each of the sensors. The proposed data fusion algorithms are used to combine the sensors’ results to reach the final class of the target. We present extensive computational results that show the merits of the proposed algorithms. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.Book Part Citation - Scopus: 0How to use novel methods for improving the performance of wireless cognitive networks(CRC Press, 2016) Preveze, B.; Preveze, Barbaros; 17573; Elektrik-Elektronik MühendisliğiBook Part Citation - Scopus: 1Mathematical modelling of polar codes, channel combining and splitting(Springer Science and Business Media B.V., 2019) Gazi, O.; 102896In Chap. 2, we explained the decoding of polar codes in a clear and trivial manner.
