Article A 3D virtual environment for training soccer referees(Elsevier Science Bv, 2019) Güleç, Ulaş; Gulec, Ulas; Yilmaz, Murat; Yılmaz, Murat; Isler, Veysi; O'Connor, Rory V.; Clarke, Paul M.; 47439Emerging digital technologies are being used in many ways by and in particular virtual environments provide new opportunities to gain experience on real-world phenomena without having to live the actual real-world experiences. In this study, a quantitative research approach supported by expert validation interviews was conducted to determine the availability of virtual environments in the training of soccer referees. The aim is to design a virtual environment for training purposes, representing a real-life soccer stadium to allow the referees to manage matches in an atmosphere similar to the real stadium atmosphere. At this point, the referees have a chance to reduce the number of errors that they make in real life by experiencing difficult decisions that they encounter during the actual match via using the virtual stadium. In addition, the decisions and reactions of the referees during the virtual match were observed with the number of different fans in the virtual stadium to understand whether the virtual stadium created a real stadium atmosphere for the referees. For this evaluation, Presence Questionnaire (PQ) and Immersive Tendencies Questionnaire (ITQ) were applied to the referees to measure their involvement levels. In addition, a semi-structure interview technique was utilized in order to understand participants' opinions about the system. These interviews show that the referees have a positive attitude towards the system since they can experience the events occurred in the match as a first person instead of watching them from camera as a third person. The findings of current study suggest that virtual environments can be used as a training tool to increase the experience levels of the soccer referees since they have an opportunity to decide about the positions without facing the real-world risks.Article A decision support system for locating weapon and radar positions in stationary point air defence(Springer, 2012) Tanerguclu, Turker; Aygüneş, Haluk; Maras, Hakan; Gencer, Cevriye; Aygunes, Haluk; 7671; 57149In this study, a decision support system (DSS) based on the interactive use of location models and geographical information systems (GIS) was developed to determine the optimal positions for air defence weapons and radars. In the location model, the fire units are considered as the facilities to be located and the possible approach routes of air vehicles are treated as demand points. Considering the probability that fire by the units will miss the targets, the objective of the problem is to determine the positions that provide coverage of the approach routes of the maximum number of weapons while considering the military principles regarding the tactical use and deployment of units. In comparison with the conventional method, the proposed methodology presents a more reliable, faster, and more efficient solution. On the other hand, owing to the DSS, a battery commander who is responsible for air defence becomes capable of determining the optimal weapon and radar positions, among the alternative ones he has identified, that cover the possible approach routes maximally. Additionally, he attains the capability of making such decisions in a very short time without going to the field over which he will perform the defence and hence without being subject to enemy threats. In the decision support system, the digital elevation model is analysed using Map Objects 2.0, the mathematical model is solved using LINGO 4.0 optimization software, and the user interface and data transfer are supported by Visual Basic 6.0.Editorial A dispassionate view of seismic-hazard assessment(Seismological Soc Amer, 2013) Gulkan, Polat; 5743Article A linearization-based approach of homotopy analysis method for non-linear time-fractional parabolic PDEs(Wiley, 2019) Odibat, Zaid; Baleanu, Dumitru; Baleanu, Dumitru; 56389In this paper, a novel approach, namely, the linearization-based approach of homotopy analysis method, to analytically treat non-linear time-fractional PDEs is proposed. The presented approach suggests a new optimized structure of the homotopy series solution based on a linear approximation of the non-linear problem. A comparative study between the proposed approach and standard homotopy analysis approach is illustrated by solving two examples involving non-linear time-fractional parabolic PDEs. The performed numerical simulations demonstrate that the linearization-based approach reduces the computational complexity and improves the performance of the homotopy analysis method.Article A Mathematical Model For Simulation of A Water Table Profile Between Two Parallel Subsurface Drains Using Fractional Derivatives(Pergamon-elsevier Science Ltd, 2013) Mehdinejadiani, Behrouz; Baleanu, Dumitru; Naseri, Abd Ali; Jafari, Hossein; Ghanbarzadeh, Afshin; Baleanu, Dumitru; 56389By considering the initial and boundary conditions corresponding to parallel subsurface drains, the linear form of a one-dimensional fractional Boussinesq equation was solved and an analytical mathematical model was developed to predict the water table profile between two parallel subsurface drains. The developed model is a generalization of the Glover-Dumm's mathematical model. As a result, the new model is applicable for both homogeneous and heterogeneous soils. It considers the degree of heterogeneity of soil as a determinable parameter. This parameter was called the heterogeneity index. The laboratory and field tests were conducted to study the performance of the proposed mathematical model in a homogenous soil and in an agricultural soil. The optimal values of parameters of the fractional model developed in this study and Glover-Dumm's model were estimated using the inverse problem method. In the proposed inverse model, a bees algorithm (BA) was used. The results showed that in the homogenous soil, the heterogeneity index was nearly equal to 2 and therefore, the developed mathematical model reduced to the Glover-Dumm's mathematical model. The heterogeneity index of the experimental field soil considered was equal to 1.04; hence, this soil was classified as a very heterogeneous soil. In the experimental field soil, the proposed mathematical model better represented the water table profile between two parallel subsurface drains than the Glover-Dumm's mathematical model. Therefore, it appears that the proposed fractional model presented is a highly general and effective method to estimate the water table profile between two parallel subsurface drains, and the scale effects are robustly reflected by the introduced heterogeneity index. The iteration procedure is based on local fractional derivative operators (LFDOs). This method is a combination of the local fractional Laplace transform (LFLT) and the homotopy perturbation method (HPM). The method in general is easy to implement and yields good results. Illustrative examples are included to demonstrate the validity and applicability of the new technique.Article A modified variational iteration method for solving fractional riccati differential equation by Adomian polynomials(Walter de Gruyter Gmbh, 2013) Jafari, Hossein; Baleanu, Dumitru; Tajadodi, Hale; Baleanu, Dumitru; 56389In this paper, we introduce a modified variational iteration method (MVIM) for solving Riccati differential equations. Also the fractional Riccati differential equation is solved by variational iteration method with considering Adomians polynomials for nonlinear terms. The main advantage of the MVIM is that it can enlarge the convergence region of iterative approximate solutions. Hence, the solutions obtained using the MVIM give good approximations for a larger interval. The numerical results show that the method is simple and effective.Article A New Approach For Solving A System of Fractional Partial Differential Equations(Pergamon-elsevier Science Ltd, 2013) Jafari, H.; Baleanu, Dumitru; Nazari, M.; Baleanu, D.; Khalique, C. M.; 56389In this paper we propose a new method for solving systems of linear and nonlinear fractional partial differential equations. This method is a combination of the Laplace transform method and the Iterative method and here after called the Iterative Laplace transform method. This method gives solutions without any discretization and restrictive assumptions. The method is free from round-off errors and as a result the numerical computations are reduced. The fractional derivative is described in the Caputo sense. Finally, numerical examples are presented to illustrate the preciseness and effectiveness of the new technique. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. M.; Baleanu, Dumitru; Jafari, H.; Baleanu, D.; 56389In this paper we consider multi variable orders differential equations (MVODEs) with non-local and no-singular kernel. The derivative is described in Atangana and Baleanu sense of variable order. We use the fifth-kind Chebyshev polynomials as basic functions to obtain operational matrices. We transfer the original equations to a system of algebraic equations using operational matrices and collocation method. The convergence analysis of the presented method is discussed. Few examples are presented to show the efficiency of the presented method. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. The Caputo, Caputo-Fabrizio and Atangana-Baleanu fractional operators are used to induce memory effects in the mathematical modeling of exothermic reactions. The patterns of heat flow profiles are very essential for heat transfer in every kind of the thermal insulation. In the present investigation, we focus on the driving force problem due to the fact that temperature gradient is assumed. The mathematical equation of the problem is confined in a fractional energy balance equation (FEBE), which furnishes the temperature portrayal in conduction state having uniform heat source on steady state. The fractional Laplace decomposition technique is utilized to obtain the numerical solution of the corresponding FEBE describing the exothermic reactions. Some numerical results for the fractional exothermic reactions model are presented through graphs and tables. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. The equilibrium points and stability of the new system are studied. To simulate this model, a new and efficient numerical method is provided and its stability and convergence are proved. According to a real outbreak on the Cape Verde Islands occurred in year 2009, the new model is examined for a period of three months by using singular or nonsingular kernels in the definition of derivative operator. Simulation results show that the proposed formalism with exponential kernel agrees well with the real data in the early stage of the epidemic while the Mittag-Leffler kernel fits the reality for the later part of the time interval. Hence, the new framework in a hybrid manner can properly simulate the dynamics of the disease in the whole of the time interval. In order to stabilize the disease-free equilibrium point of the system under investigation, two control strategies are suggested. Numerical simulations verify that the proposed stabilizing controllers are efficient and provide significantly remarkable results. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. FWT approach is a new powerful tool for removing noise and irrelevant information from the absorption spectra. Cardinal information having higher peak amplitude, eliminated noise, sharp peaks with shrinking width of spectral range was obtained by the application of FWT procedure to the original absorption spectra. In this paper, FWT approach was subjected to the data vector of the UV-signals obtained from AP and SB in the wavelength range of 211.5-313.8 nm. Derivative transform was applied to the original absorption signal together with its FWT generalization. The calibration graphs for AP and SB were obtained by measuring the FWT and usual derivative amplitudes at zero-crossing points. The method validation was carried out by using the synthetic mixture analysis. Our proposed FWT approach was compared with the usual derivative spectrophotometry and chemometric methods (CLS, PCR and PLS) and a good agreement was reported. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. The proposed method has been inspired from natural selection process and it completes this process in GA by using the PSO and SOS. It tends to minimize the execution time and in addition to reduce the complexity. Symbiotic organisms search is a robust and powerful metaheuristic algorithm which has attracted increasing attention in recent decades. There are three alternative phases in the proposed algorithm: GA, which develops and selects best population for the next phases, PSO, which gets experiences for each appropriate solution and updates them as well and SOS, which benefits from previous phases and performs symbiotic interaction update phases in the real-world population. The proposed algorithm was tested on the set of best known unimodal and multimodal benchmark functions in various dimensions. It has further been evaluated in, the experiment on the clustering of benchmark datasets. The obtained results from basic and non-parametric statistical tests confirmed that this hybrid method dominates in terms of convergence, execution time, success rate. It optimizes the high dimensional and complex functions Rosenbrock and Griewank up to 10(-330) accuracy in less than 3 s, outperforming other known algorithms. It had also applied clustering datasets with minimum intra-cluster distance and error rate. (C) 2017 Elsevier Inc. The F-N equation describes the transmission of nerve impulses. In order to handle the nonlinear terms, the homotopy polynomials are employed. To validate the results derived by employing the used scheme, we study the F-N equation of arbitrary order by using the fractional reduced differential transform scheme. The error analysis of the proposed approach is also discussed. The outcomes are shown through the graphs and tables that elucidate that the used schemes are very fantastic and accurate.Article A new quadrature routine for improper and oscillatory integrals(Elsevier Science inc, 2007) Sermutlu, E.; Sermutlu, Emre; Eyyuboglu, H. Sahir; Kulah, Haluk; 120121This paper presents an electrostatically actuated, normally closed microvalve for parylene microfluidics. The proposed valve structure isolates the fluid from the electric field, and hence results in relatively low actuation potentials (<60 V) irrespective of the working fluid. Hereby, the microvalve solves electrolysis or electrode shielding problems observed in electrostatic actuation in micro total analysis systems. To investigate leakage properties, microvalves were tested under pressurized flow with de-ionized (DI) water. No detectable leakage ratio was observed up to 20 kPa inlet pressure, due to the unique semicircular valve seat design. It was shown that the valve seat could be reconfigured to enable sealing at various pressure levels for different applications. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. We revisit the problem of sliding mode controller design for robust stabilization of chaotic systems using one control input. In the recent works, it was assumed that one of the system equations are perturbed by uncertainties. For this case we show that the sliding mode dynamics are globally stable which is not addressed so far. Next, we allow that all the system's equations depend on uncertain terms and provide a theoretical justification for applicability of the existing design. We also determine the least amount of precise information about the chaotic system that is needed to design the controller. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. The data consists of a large statistical survey that included four housing complexes situated in different climate regions in Turkey. Another more detailed survey was given to occupants of housing blocks in Ankara. Apartments were also monitored during a one-week period in summer and again in winter. All collected data were evaluated by sensitivity analysis. The results showed that occupant presence at home and operating windows had the most profound effect on internal loads and comfort levels whole year. Additionally, the transparency level of curtains, impacts the indoor temperature during the winter time. The results were used to develop a web-based tool which is going to be a guide for renovation strategies of current housing stock.
