Diffraction of Waves by an Impedance Half-Plane
    (Elsevier Science Bv, 2013) Umul, Y. Z.
The solution of the diffraction problem of waves by an impedance half-plane that satisfies the impedance boundary condition is obtained for the first time in the literature. A reflection coefficient which is the function of the angular and spatial variables in the polar coordinates is defined and its exact expression is obtained with the aid of the impedance boundary condition. The resultant diffraction field is compared with the solution of Malyuzhinets numerically and their differences are stressed. The structures of the total scattered, geometrical optics and diffracted waves are also investigated. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Multidetermination of Thiamine Hcl and Pyridoxine Hcl in Their Mixture Using Continuous Daubechies and Biorthogonal Wavelet Analysis
(Elsevier Science Bv, 2003) Baleanu, D; Dinç, E
A new graphical method based on the one-dimensional wavelet transform (WT) was proposed and tested on mixture of thiamine hydrochloride (THI) and pyridoxine hydrochloride (PYR) in the presence of strongly overlapping signals. We selected from the data of the UV-VIS absorption spectra a signal consisting of 1150 points corresponding to the concentration range 8-32 mg ml(-1) for each vitamin and we subjected it to Daubechies8 (DAUB8) and Biorthogonal6.8 (BIOR6.8) wavelet transforms. Since the peaks of the transformed signals were bigger than original ones a zero crossing method was applied to obtain the calibration graphs. In addition, the validity of Beer-Lambert law was assumed for the transformed signals. An appropriate scale setting was choosing to obtain an alternative calibration for each method. MATLAB 6.5 software was used for one-dimensional wavelet analysis and the basic concepts about wavelet method were given. The obtained results were successfully compared among each other as well as with those obtained by other literature methods. The method developed in this paper is rapid, easy to apply, not expensive and it is suitable for analyzing of the overlapping signals of compounds in their mixtures without any chemical pre-treatment. Cantor-Type Cylindrical-Coordinate Method for Differential Equations With Local Fractional Derivatives
(Elsevier Science Bv, 2013) Srivastava, H. M.; He, Ji-Huan; Baleanu, Dumitru; Yang, Xiao-Jun
In this Letter, we propose to use the Cantor-type cylindrical-coordinate method in order to investigate a family of local fractional differential operators on Cantor sets. Some testing examples are given to illustrate the capability of the proposed method for the heat-conduction equation on a Cantor set and the damped wave equation in fractal strings. It is seen to be a powerful tool to convert differential equations on Cantor sets from Cantorian-coordinate systems to Cantor-type cylindrical-coordinate systems. (c) 2013 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Sampled-Data Nonlinear Observer Design for Chaos Synchronization: a Lyapunov-Based Approach
(Elsevier Science Bv, 2014) Mashhadi, Seyed Kamal-e-ddin Mousavi; Baleanu, Dumitru; Faieghi, Mohammadreza; Mousavi Mashhadi, Seyed Kamal-e-ddin
This paper considers sampled-data based chaos synchronization using observers in the presence of measurement noise for a large class of chaotic systems. We study discretized model of chaotic systems which are perturbed by white noise and employ Lyapunov-like theorems to come up with a simple yet effective observer design. For the choice of observer gain, a suboptimal criterion is obtained in terms of LMI. We present semiglobal as well as global results. The proposed scheme can also be extended for discrete-time chaotic systems. Numerical simulations have been carried out to verify the effectiveness of theoretical results. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. Models, Solutions and Enabling Technologies in Humanitarian Logistics
(Elsevier Science Bv, 2015) Ertem, Mustafa Alp; Ozdamar, Linet
We present a survey that focuses on the response and recovery planning phases of the disaster lifecycle. Related mathematical models developed in this area of research are classified in terms of vehicle/network representation structures and their functionality. The relationships between these characteristics and model size are discussed. The review provides details on goals, constraints, and structures of available mathematical models as well as solution methods. In this review, information systems applications in humanitarian logistics are also surveyed, since humanitarian logistics models and their solutions need to be integrated with information technology to enable their use in practice. Environmental Risk Assessment of Small Hydropower (Shp) Plants: a Case Study for Tefen Shp Plant on Filyos River
(Elsevier Science Bv, 2014) Kucukali, Serhat
A multi-criteria scoring tool is used to assess the environmental risk level of small hydropower plants on the basis of documented evidence, measured data, and on-site observations. The assessment is based on evaluating compliance with the standards of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The following environmental criteria are assessed: environmental flow, water quality, fish passage and protection, watershed protection, threatened and endangered species. I evaluated the Tefen hydropower plant, which has been in operation on the Filyos River in northwestern Turkey since 2011. The assessment showed that the plant failed all of the EBRD criteria. Compositional Dependence of Raman-Active Mode Frequencies and Line Widths in Tlins2xse2(1-X) Mixed Crystals
    (Elsevier Science Bv, 2014) Guler, I.; Gasanly, N. M.
The Raman spectra of mixed crystals TlInS2xSe2(1-x) have been investigated in the composition range of 0.25 <= x <= 0.75 and in the high-frequency region of 250-350 cm(-1) at room temperature. It was observed that Raman-active mode frequencies decrease as the selenium atoms content increases in the mixed crystals. The effect of crystal disorder on the line broadening of three high-frequency modes is reported. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A Comparative Study on Biodegradation and Mechanical Properties of Pressureless Infiltrated Ti/Ti6al4v-mg Composites
(Elsevier Science Bv, 2016) Karakas, M. Serdar; Esen, Ziya; Butev, Ezgi
The mechanical response and biodegradation behavior of pressureless Mg-infiltrated Ti-Mg and Ti6Al4V-Mg composites were investigated by compression and simulated body fluid immersion tests, respectively. Prior porous preforms were surrounded uniformly with magnesium as a result of infiltration and the resultant composites were free of secondary phases and intermetallics. Although the composites' compressive strengths were superior compared to bone, both displayed elastic moduli similar to that of cortical bone and had higher ductility with respect to their starting porous forms. However, Ti-Mg composites were unable to preserve their mechanical stabilities during in-vitro tests such that they fractured in multiple locations within 15 days of immersion. The pressure generated by H-2 due to rapid corrosion of magnesium caused failure of the Ti-Mg composites through sintering necks. On the other hand, the galvanic effect seen in Ti6Al4V-Mg was less severe compared to that of Ti-Mg. The degradation rate of magnesium in Ti6Al4V-Mg was slower, and the composites were observed to be mechanically stable and preserved their integrities over the entire 25-day immersion test. Both composites showed bioinert and biodegradable characteristics during immersion tests and magnesium preferentially corroded leaving porosity behind while Ti/Ti6Al4V remained as a permanent scaffold. The porosity created by degradation of magnesium was refilled by new globular agglomerates. Mg(OH)(2) and CaHPO4 phases were encountered during immersion tests while MgCl2 was detected during only the first 5 days. Both composites were classified as bioactive since the precipitation of CaHPO4 phase is known to be precursor of hydroxyapatite formation, an essential requirement for an artificial material to bond to living bone.
