    Adaptive Decision Fusion Based Framework for Short-Term Wind Speed and Turbulence Intensity Forecasting: Case Study for North West of Turkey

    In this paper, an online learning framework called adaptive decision fusion (ADF) is employed for short-term wind speed and turbulence intensity forecasting by use of wind speed data for each season for the city of Izmit, located in the northwest of Turkey. Fixed-weight (FW) linear combination is derived and used for comparison with ADF. Wind speeds and turbulence intensities are predicted from the existing wind speed data and computed turbulence intensities, respectively, using the ADF and FW methods. Simulations are carried out for each season and the results are tested on mean absolute percentage error criterion. It is shown that the proposed model captured the system dynamic behavior and made accurate predictions based on the seasonal wind speed characteristics of the site. The procedure described here can be used to estimate the local velocity and turbulence intensity in a wind power plant during a storm.

    On Some Fractional Operators Generated From Abel's Formula

    This work aims to share some fractional integrals and derivatives containing three real parameters. The main tool to introduce such operators is the corresponding Abel's equation. Solvability conditions for the Abel's equations are shared. Semigroup property for fractional integrals are introduced. Integration by parts rule is given. Moreover, mean value theorems and related results are shared. At the end of the paper, some directions for some fractional operators are given.

    Detection of Hand Osteoarthritis From Hand Radiographs Using Convolutional Neural Networks With Transfer Learning

    Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis. Hand osteoarthritis leads to specific structural changes in the joints, such as asymmetric joint space narrowing and osteophytes (bone spurs). Conventional radiography has traditionally been the primary method of visualizing these structural changes and diagnosing osteoarthritis. We aimed to develop a computerized method that is capable of determining the structural changes seen in radiography of the hand and to assist practitioners in interpreting radiographic changes and diagnosing the disease. In this retrospective study, transfer-learning-based convolutional neural networks were trained on a randomly selected dataset containing 332 radiography images of hands from an original set of 420 and were validated with the remaining 88. Multilayer convolutional neural network models were designed based on a transfer learning method using pretrained AlexNet, GoogLeNet, and VGG-19 networks. The accuracies of the models were 93.2% for AlexNet, 94.3% for GoogLeNet, and 96.6% for VGG-19. The sensitivities of these models were 0.9167 for AlexNet, 0.9184 for GoogLeNet, and 0.9574 for VGG-19, while the specificity values were 0.9500, 0.9744, and 0.9756, respectively. The performance metrics, including accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and precision, of our newly developed automated diagnosis methods are promising in the diagnosis of hand osteoarthritis. Our computer-aided detection systems may help physicians in interpreting hand radiography images, diagnosing osteoarthritis, and saving time.

    Fourth Order Differential Operators With Distributional Potentials

    In this paper, regular and singular fourth order differential operators with distributional potentials are investigated. In particular, existence and uniqueness of solutions of the fourth order differential equations are proved, deficiency indices theory of the corresponding minimal symmetric operators are studied. These symmetric operators are considered as acting on the single and direct sum Hilbert spaces. The latter one consists of three Hilbert spaces such that a squarely integrable space and two spaces of complex numbers. Moreover all maximal self-adjoint, maximal dissipative and maximal accumulative extensions of the minimal symmetric operators including direct sum operators are given in the single and direct sum Hilbert spaces.

    Extending a Sentiment Lexicon With Synonym-Antonym Datasets: Swnettr Plus

    In our previous studies on developing a general-purpose Turkish sentiment lexicon, we constructed SWNetTR-PLUS, a sentiment lexicon of 37K words. In this paper, we show how to use Turkish synonym and antonym word pairs to extend SWNetTR-PLUS by almost 33% to obtain SWNetTR++, a Turkish sentiment lexicon of 49K words. The extension was done by transferring the problem into the graph domain, where nodes are words, and edges are synonym- antonym relations between words, and propagating the existing tone and polarity scores to the newly added words using an algorithm we have developed. We tested the existing and new lexicons using a manually labeled Turkish news media corpus of 500 news texts. The results show that our method yielded a significantly more accurate lexicon than SWNetTR-PLUS, resulting in an accuracy increase from 72.2% to 80.4%. At this level, we have now maximized the accuracy rates of translation-based sentiment analysis approaches, which first translate a Turkish text to English and then do the analysis using English sentiment lexicons.

    On the Stability of Inverse Dynamics Control of Flexible-Joint Parallel Manipulators in the Presence of Modeling Error and Disturbances

    Inverse dynamics control is considered for flexible-joint parallel manipulators in order to obtain a good trajectory tracking performance in the case of modeling error and disturbances. It is known that, in the absence of modeling error and disturbance, inverse dynamics control leads to linear fourth-order error dynamics, which is asymptotically stable if the feedback gains are chosen to make the real part of the eigenvalues of the system negative. However, when there are modeling errors and disturbances, a linear time-varying error dynamics is obtained whose stability is not assured only by keeping the real parts of the frozen-time eigenvalues of the system negative. In this paper, the stability of such systems is investigated and it is proved that the linear time-varying system can be rendered stable by selecting the feedback gains such that the variation of the system becomes sufficiently slow. To illustrate the performance of the control method, deployment motion of a 3-(R) under bar PR planar parallel manipulator subject to impact is simulated. For the impact model, the impulse-momentum and the coefficient of restitution equations for the system are derived.

    Calculation of the Frequency Shifts and Damping Constant for the Raman Modes (A1g, B1) Near the Tetragonal-Cubic Transition in Srtio3

    Raman shifts of the soft mode A(1g) and the B-1 mode are calculated at various pressures at room temperature for the cubic-tetragonal transition (P-c = 9.5 GPa) in SrTiO3. This calculation is performed using the observed volume data through the mode Gruneisen parameters of A(1g) and B-1 which vary with pressure, by fitting to the experimental wavenumbers in this crystalline system. Calculated Raman shifts are then used as order parameters to predict the pressure dependence of the damping constant and the inverse relaxation time for the cubic-tetragonal transition in SrTiO3. Our predictions from the pseudospin-phonon coupling and the energy fluctuation models can be compared with the experimental measurements when available in the literature.
