Book Information Theory for Electrical Engineers(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2018) Gazi, O.; Gazi, Orhan; Elektronik ve Haberleşme MühendisliğiConference Object Citation - Scopus: 6A New Companding Technique for PAPR Reduction in OFDM Communication Systems(2011) Gazi, O.One of the major disadvantages of OFDM communication systems is their high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) which degrades system performance when nonlinear power amplifiers are employed. Among the proposed PAPR techniques companding is favorable due to its simplicity and easy of implementation. In this article, using the arctangent function we propose a new compading technique for PAPR reduction. We compare the proposed technique to the previously suggested exponential companding, and μ-law companding methods. Via computer simulations it is verified that the proposed technique is better than exponential and μ-law companding methods for PAPR reduction. © 2011 HTE.Book Citation - Scopus: 5Principles of Signals and Systems(Springer International Publishing, 2022) Gazi, O.The textbook presents basic concepts of signals and systems in a clear manner, based on the author's 15+ years of teaching the undergraduate course for engineering students. To attain full benefit from the content, readers should have a strong knowledge of calculus and be familiar with integration, differentiation, and summation operations. The book starts with an introduction to signals and systems and continues with coverage of basic signal functions and their manipulations; energy, power, convolution, and systems; Fourier analysis of continuous time signals and digital signals; Laplace transform; and Z transforms. Practical applications are included throughout. The book is also packed with solved examples, self-study exercises, and end of chapter problems. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.Book Part Citation - Scopus: 2Multirate Signal Processing(Springer Science and Business Media B.V., 2018) Gazi, O.Digital signals are obtained from continuous time signals via sampling operation. Continuous time signals can be considered as digital signals having infinite number of samples. Sampling is nothing but selecting some of these samples and forming a mathematical sequence called digital signal. And these digital signals can be in periodic or non-periodic forms. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.Book Part Citation - Scopus: 1Discrete Fourier Transform(Springer Science and Business Media B.V., 2018) Gazi, O.In linear algebra, basis vectors span the entire vector space. And any vector of the vector space can be written as the linear combination of the basis vectors. For any vector in vector space, finding the coefficients of basis vectors used for the construction of the vector can be considered as a transformation. Fourier series are used to represent periodic signals. Fourier series are used to construct any periodic signal from sinusoidal signals. The sinusoidal signals can be considered as the basis signals, and linear combination of these signals with complex coefficients produce any periodic signal. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.Book Part Analog and Digital Filter Design(Springer Science and Business Media B.V., 2018) Gazi, O.In this chapter, we will study analog and digital filter design techniques. A filter is nothing but a linear time invariant (LTI) system. Any LTI system can be described using its impulse response. If the impulse response of a LTI system is known, then for any arbitrary input the system output can be calculated by taking the convolution of the impulse response and arbitrary input. This also means that filtering operation is nothing but a convolution operation. And filter design is nothing but finding the impulse response of a linear time invariant system. For this purpose, we can work either in time domain or frequency domain. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.Book Citation - Scopus: 12Understanding digital signal processing(Springer Science and Business Media B.V., 2018) Gazi, O.Book Part Typical Sequences and Data Compression(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2018) Gazi, O.In this chapter, we will first provide information about typical sequences the introduce the data compression subject. In fact, the data compression subject is a direct consequence of the typical sequences. For this reason, it is very important to comprehend the concept of typical sequences to understand the data compression phenomenon. © 2018, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.Book Part Polarization Rate and Performance of Polar Codes(Springer Science and Business Media B.V., 2019) Gazi, O.In this chapter, we will mathematically state the channel polarization theorem and prove it. In addition, the performance of polar codes will be mathematically analyzed. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2019.Book Part Polarization of Binary Erasure Channels(Springer Science and Business Media B.V., 2019) Gazi, O.In this chapter, we will demonstrate the calculation of split channel capacities when polar codes are employed for binary erasure channels. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2019.
