Software Professionals During the Covid-19 Pandemic in Turkey: Factors Affecting Their Mental Well-Being and Work Engagement in the Home-Based Work Setting
(Elsevier Science inc, 2022) Tokdemir, Gul
With the COVID-19 pandemic, strict measures have been taken to slow down the spread of the virus, and consequently, software professionals have been forced to work from home. However, home based working entails many challenges, as the home environment is shared by the whole family simultaneously under pandemic conditions. The aim of this study is to explore software professionals' mental well-being and work engagement and the relationships of these variables with job strain and resource-related factors in the forced home-based work setting during the COVID-19 pandemic. An online cross-sectional survey based on primarily well-known, validated scales was conducted with software professionals in Turkey. The analysis of the results was performed through hierarchical multivariate regression. The results suggest that despite the negative effect of job strain, the resource related protective factors, namely, sleep quality, decision latitude, work-life balance, exercise predict mental well-being. Additionally, work engagement is predicted by job strain, sleep quality, and decision latitude. The results of the study will provide valuable insights to management of the software companies and professionals about the precautions that can be taken to have a better home-based working experience such as allowing greater autonomy and enhancing the quality of sleep and hence mitigating the negative effects of pandemic emergency situations on software professionals' mental well-being and work engagement. Investigation of the Fractional Diffusion Equation Based on Generalized Integral Quadrature Technique
(Elsevier Science inc, 2015) Razminia, Abolhassan; Baleanu, Dumitru; Razminia, Kambiz
Nowadays, the conventional Euclidean models are mostly used to describe the behavior of fluid flow through porous media. These models assume the homogeneity of the reservoir, and in naturally fractured reservoir, the fractures are distributed uniformly and use the interconnected fractures assumption. However, several cases such as core, log, outcrop data, production behavior of reservoirs, and the dynamic behavior of reservoirs indicate that the reservoirs have a different behavior other than these assumptions in most cases. According to the fractal theory and the concept of fractional derivative, a generalized diffusion equation is presented to analyze the transport in fractal reservoirs. Three outer boundary conditions are investigated. Using exact analytical or semi-analytical solutions for generalized diffusion equation with fractional order differential equation and a fractal physical form, under the usual assumptions, requires large amounts of computation time and may produce inaccurate and fake results for some combinations of parameters. Because of fractionality, fractal shape, and therefore the existence of infinite series, large computation times occur, which is sometimes slowly convergent. This paper provides a computationally efficient and accurate method via differential quadrature (DQ) and generalized integral quadrature (GIQ) analyses of diffusion equation to overcome these difficulties. The presented method would overcome the imperfections in boundary conditions' implementations of second-order partial differential equation (PDE) encountered in such problems. (C) 2014 Elsevier Inc. Variational Iteration Method for the Burgers' Flow With Fractional Derivatives-New Lagrange Multipliers
(Elsevier Science inc, 2013) Baleanu, Dumitru; Wu, Guo-Cheng
The flow through porous media can be better described by fractional models than the classical ones since they include inherently memory effects caused by obstacles in the structures. The variational iteration method was extended to find approximate solutions of fractional differential equations with the Caputo derivatives, but the Lagrange multipliers of the method were not identified explicitly. In this paper, the Lagrange multiplier is determined in a more accurate way and some new variational iteration formulae are presented. (C) 2013 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

A New Hybrid Algorithm for Continuous Optimization Problem
(Elsevier Science inc, 2018) Jafarian, Ahmad; Baleanu, Dumitru; Farnad, Behnam
This paper applies a new hybrid method by a combination of three population base algorithms such as Genetic Algorithm (GA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Symbiotic Organisms Search (SOS). The proposed method has been inspired from natural selection process and it completes this process in GA by using the PSO and SOS. It tends to minimize the execution time and in addition to reduce the complexity. Symbiotic organisms search is a robust and powerful metaheuristic algorithm which has attracted increasing attention in recent decades. There are three alternative phases in the proposed algorithm: GA, which develops and selects best population for the next phases, PSO, which gets experiences for each appropriate solution and updates them as well and SOS, which benefits from previous phases and performs symbiotic interaction update phases in the real-world population. The proposed algorithm was tested on the set of best known unimodal and multimodal benchmark functions in various dimensions. It has further been evaluated in, the experiment on the clustering of benchmark datasets. The obtained results from basic and non-parametric statistical tests confirmed that this hybrid method dominates in terms of convergence, execution time, success rate. It optimizes the high dimensional and complex functions Rosenbrock and Griewank up to 10(-330) accuracy in less than 3 s, outperforming other known algorithms. It had also applied clustering datasets with minimum intra-cluster distance and error rate. (C) 2017 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Caputo and Related Fractional Derivatives in Singular Systems
(Elsevier Science inc, 2018) Baleanu, Dumitru, I; Dassios, Ioannis K.
By using the Caputo (C) fractional derivative and two recently defined alternative versions of this derivative, the Caputo-Fabrizio (CF) and the Atangana-Baleanu (AB) fractional derivative, firstly we focus on singular linear systems of fractional differential equations with constant coefficients that can be non-square matrices, or square & singular. We study existence of solutions and provide formulas for the case that there do exist solutions. Then, we study the existence of unique solution for given initial conditions. Several numerical examples are given to justify our theory. (C) 2018 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Solving Pdes of Fractional Order Using the Unified Transform Method
(Elsevier Science inc, 2018) Baleanu, Dumitru; Fokas, Athanassios S.; Fernandez, Arran
We consider the unified transform method, also known as the Fokas method, for solving partial differential equations. We adapt and modify the methodology, incorporating new ideas where necessary, in order to apply it to solve a large class of partial differential equations of fractional order. We demonstrate the applicability of the method by implementing it to solve a model fractional problem. (C) 2018 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Duality of Singular Linear Systems of Fractional Nabla Difference Equations
(Elsevier Science inc, 2015) Baleanu, Dumitru I.; Dassios, Ioannis K.
The main objective of this article is to provide a link between the solutions of an initial value problem of a linear singular system of fractional nabla difference equations, its proper dual system and its transposed dual system. By taking into consideration the case that the coefficients are square constant matrices with the leading coefficient singular, we study the prime system and by using the invariants of its pencil we give necessary and sufficient conditions for existence and uniqueness of solutions. After we prove that by using the pencil of the prime system we can study the existence and uniqueness of solutions of the proper dual system and the transposed dual system. Moreover their solutions, when they exist, can be explicitly represented without resorting to further processes of computations for each one separately. Finally, numerical examples are given based on a singular fractional nabla real dynamical system to justify our theory. (C) 2014 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
