    A Neo-Structuralist Perspective on Architectural Theory of Post-Truth Era: Re-Constructing the Architect-Subject
(Yildiz Technical Univ, Fac Architecture, 2022) Cavdar, Rabia Cigdem
The fundamental aim of the article is to scrutinise the transformations and yet pseudo-disappearance of architectural theory with an archi-theoretical gaze. It is an attempt to reread/ write the architectural theory of the 21st century in the shade of the claim that architectural theory was dead. It is obvious that not only in architecture but also in all social-life structures, free-floating meanings began to invade the totality; every concept that constitutes societal life was dislocated after the digital turn. Concepts began to be depicted with the prefix 'pose; such as post-historical, post-humanist, post-political, post-ideological, post-theory, and even, 'post-truth'. Under these circumstances, the main argument of the article is that architecture could be run as a 'point de capitone' -in Lacanian terminology-, between the subject -described as the sublime object of ideology by Zizek- and the ideology; the role of architecture is to work as a stabiliser on/between the liquid surfaces/grounds. In the context of the main argument, the article is structured on three conceptual domains, which are that ideology, subject and architecture. Architecture as a point de capitone has a significant role in the reconstitution of incommensurable dialectic in the 'redoubling procedure; which works for both recreating the lost otherness, and providing social antagonism.

Spatial Organization of Public Buildings: an Evaluation on the Capital City of Turkey
(Yildiz Technical Univ, Fac Architecture, 2020) Orhan, Ezgi
Ankara, a small town of Anatolia before becoming the capital of Turkey, experienced a fundamental spatial restructuring process following the proclamation of the Republic. The vision of modernity and protective economic structure of the Early Republican era determined the spatial configuration of the city and produced public buildings as the icons of the young regime. The last ninety years witnessed different political-economic climates redesigning the urban regime of Ankara and symbols. One of the most tangible transformations is observed in the public buildings, which convey the economic understandings and urban politics of each period through their spatial and architectural organizations, and symbolic meanings. This study explores the change in the urban symbols with an emphasis on public buildings. For this, the ministry buildings of the capital city were selected to investigate spatial organizations, archistar buildings, and the messages conveyed to the public. Focusing on the the intentionally developed clusters of ministries, this study adressed basically three periods concerning the change in political and economic systems; the foundation period, the liberal years and the neoliberal era. As a result of this study it is stated that that in the Turkish case public buildings reflect the main motives of the period they were produced, their spatial organization serves as a medium containing information about the political, economic and social structure of each period.

Evaluating Indoor Environmental Quality of a Wellness Center Through Objective, Subjective and Architectural Criteria
(Yildiz Technical Univ, Fac Architecture, 2019) Alkabashi, Bubaker Hassan Ali; Dokmeci Yorukoglu, Papatya Nur
Designing a good indoor environment is necessary for its health effects on the users. Therefore, the assessment of indoor environmental quality (IEQ) should include analysis of objective measures and architectural assessment as well as users' comfort evaluations. In this research, a wellness center in Ankara, Turkey is chosen as a case space. In order to assess its indoor environmental quality, acoustical, lighting, thermal and humidity measurements on indoor environment, questionnaires on user experience and architectural assessment of the chosen case space is presented. The findings obtained from the measurements and questionnaires are presented in detail. In addition, the relationship between objective and subjective data is statistically tested. Moreover, overall architectural assessment and material type and usage analysis are also included. Special spaces such as, exercise and treatment rooms in the case space are focused specifically for in depth function and activity related analyses. In addition, demographical and space usage data are also statistically tested with considering the importance and physical perception ratings of the IEQ parameters. Obtained results show that, age, frequency of visit and purpose of visit are the factors that affect the subjective evaluation of the IEQ parameters. Furthermore, the measured objective data are compared to international standards, where incompliances are found in the acoustic and lighting conditions of the case wellness center.
