With the depth of seawater, the coherence length of a spherical wave operating in the underwater turbulent medium is demonstrated for the range of 0-4000 m. By utilizing the coherence length varying with parameters such as the rate of dissipation of turbulent kinetic energy per unit mass of fluid epsilon, the rate of dissipation of the mean squared temperature chi(T) and non-dimensional representing the relative strength of temperature and salinity fluctuations omega, which depend on depth, the field correlation is examined in detail for single modes and multimode. Their variations are exhibited. Our results indicate clearly that as the mode increases, field correlation gets better.Article Citation - WoS: 20Citation - Scopus: 20Modeling of Mixed Convection in an Enclosure Using Multiple Regression, Artificial Neural Network, and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Interface System Models(Sage Publications Ltd, 2020) Ayli, EceIn this study, the heat transfer characteristics of laminar combined forced convection through a horizontal duct are obtained with the help of the numerical methods. The effect of the geometrical parameters of the cavity and Reynolds number on the heat transfer is investigated. New heat transfer correlation for hydrodynamically fully developed, laminar combined forced convection through a horizontal duct is proposed with an average error of 6.98% and R-2 of 0.8625. The obtained correlation results are compared with the artificial neural network and adaptive neuro-fuzzy interface system models. Due to the obtained results, good agreement is identified between the numerical results and predicted adaptive neuro-fuzzy interface system results. In conclusion, it is seen that adaptive neuro-fuzzy interface system can predict the Nusselt number distribution with a higher accuracy than the developed correlation and the artificial neural network model. The developed adaptive neuro-fuzzy interface system model predicts the Nusselt number with 1.07% mean average percentage error and 0.9983 R-2 value. The effect of the different training algorithms and their ability to predict Nusselt number distribution are examined. According to the results, the Bayesian regulation algorithm gives the best approach with a 2.235% error. According to the examination that is performed in this study, the adaptive neuro-fuzzy interface system is a powerful, robust tool that can be used with confidence for predicting the thermal performance.Article Citation - WoS: 7Citation - Scopus: 7An Evaluation of the Relationship Between Physical/Mechanical Properties and Mineralogy of Landscape Rocks as Determined by Hyperspectral Reflectance(Springer Heidelberg, 2016) Caniberk, Mustafa; Odabas, Mehmet Serhat; Degerli, Burcu; Maras, Suleyman Sirri; Maras, Hadi Hakan; Maras, Erdem EminWe investigated the relationships between mineral content and the physical and mechanical properties of landscape rock using a non-destructive remote sensing method applied in the laboratory. Using this technique, the spectral properties of the landscape rock could be collected at different wavelengths without harming the samples. Differences in spectral reflectance were compared with the physical and mechanical properties of the stone. Significant correlations were observed between reflectance values and the rocks' mechanical and physical properties, with correlation coefficients of 95 to 99 %. However, establishing a correlation between two variables is not a sufficient condition to establish a causal relationship. Mineral densities and mineral content are characteristics used for the classification of landscape rock. We have concluded that although spectral signatures from landscape rock can be used for predicting which stones might have similar features when comparing two batches of stone, the high correlations we discovered cannot confirm a cause and effect relationship that would allow for the prediction of a rock's physical and mechanical properties. A.; MacHado, J.A. TenreiroThis paper presents the Pseudo phase plane (PPP) method for detecting the existence of a nanofilm on the nitroazobenzene-modified glassy carbon electrode (NAB-GC) system. This modified electrode systems and nitroazobenze-nanofilnn were prepared by the electrochemical reduction of diazonium salt of NAB at the glassy carbon electrodes (GCE) in nonaqueous media. The IR spectra of the bare glassy carbon electrodes (GCE), the NAB-GC electrode system and the organic NAB film were recorded. The IR data of the bare GC, NAB-GC and NAB film were categorized into five series consisting of FILM1, GC-NAB1, GC1; FILM2, GC-NAB2, GC2; FILM3, GC-NAB3, GC3 and FILM4, GC-NAB4, GC4 respectively. The PPP approach was applied to each group of the data of unmodified and modified electrode systems with nanofilm. The results provided by PPP method show the existence of the NAB film on the modified GC electrode.Article Citation - WoS: 58Citation - Scopus: 75Analyzing the Compliance and Correlation of Leed and Breeam by Conducting a Criteria-Based Comparative Analysis and Evaluating Dual-Certified Projects(Pergamon-elsevier Science Ltd, 2019) Suzer, OzgeCertified green buildings are known to demonstrate high environmental performance; however, it is still not clear where they stand among each other, unless certified by the same body. This study aims to examine the compliance and correlation between the most prominent green building rating systems, LEED and BREEAM. It also estimates how a project would be graded by one system if already certified by the other. Regarding the methodology of the study, the intents of evaluation criteria in the latest versions for new constructions of LEED and BREEAM are analyzed. Commonly addressed and different concerns are determined, and the scales for assigning their award levels are compared. It is observed that they have a high level of compliance because 83% of the environmental concerns are commonly addressed issues. Moreover, it is derived that a dual-certified project aiming to achieve the same award level in both assessments has to display a better performance in BREEAM as it includes a higher number of concerns to be fulfilled. Based on the correlation analyses on twenty dual-certified buildings, the results from the scatter plot diagram, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient (r) and Paired Samples t-Test show that there is a large positive linear correlation and that LEED scores are significantly higher than BREEAM scores. Furthermore, the difference between the averages of LEED and BREEAM scores and the average difference between award levels indicate that if there would be a difference in ratings of dual-certified projects, it would be in favor of LEED by one award level.
