Abstract
Early Period factories stand out among the industrial heritage structures that have an important place in the history of architecture of the Republican Period. These factory complexes are seen as pilot zones that convey the impact of the modernization process on urban structure and social life through a strong industrialization program. In these comprehensive plants, where the sense of modern life began to be perceived in Anatolia, especially workers' housing and social facilities were the new spatial arrangements that the community encountered for the first time. Turhal Sugar Factory, established in the Central Black Sea Region in 1934, attracted attention not only with its production and management structures, but also with its housing units and social facilities. This study investigates the architectural features of the housing approach of the period, its relations with the urban scale, and its contributions to the housing typology and urban culture in Anatolia through the workers' housing of Turhal Sugar Factory, which were built as one of Turkey's first sugar factories in the Early Republican Period and continue to function today. The aim is to analyze the workers' housing of Turhal Sugar Factory in terms of architecture, to emphasize their signifcance as an industrial heritage, to raise public awareness and to offer principles to ensure their protection that are facing demolition.
