Design of a campus information system for Baghdad University

Abstract

Teknolojideki gelişmeler, günlük hayatımızda etkin bir oynamaktadır. Bu gelişmelerin önemli faydalarından birisi, bilgisayar teknolojileri sayesinde oluşan Coğrafi Bilgi Sistemleri (CBS) dir. CBS insanlara, çevre verilerinin elde edilebilmesini, bu bilgilerle ilgili olarak veri toplama, veri tabanı oluşturma, veri depolama, sınıflandırma, analiz gibi teknolojiler ile birlikte hayatımızın her alanında kullanım kolaylığı sağlamaktadır. Hayatta, özellikle de akademik hayatta, bilgi teknolojisi çağında, CBS; bir üniversite kampüsünde etkin olarak kullanılabilecek çok önemli bir araçtır. CBS, planlama aşamasında, karar vermede yardımcı olur ve kampüsteki birimlere destek sağlar. Kampüs CBS bir yazılım arayüz sistemi ile desteklenmek zorundadır. Bu çalışmada, Bağdat Üniversitesi Kampüsü için harita tabanlı bir bilgi sistemi tasarlanmıştır. Bu bilgi sistemi, Kampüs haritasına dayalı olarak, öğrencilerin yanında hem akademik hem de idari personelin Üniversite, binalar ve altyapı hakkındaki beklentilerini karşılayacak şekilde geliştirilmiştir.

The developments in technology play an active role in our daily life. One of the most important benefits of these developments brought by the computer is the Geographical Information System (GIS). GIS helps people in the provision of environmental data and related technologies including data acquisition, database creation, storage and classification, analysis and its comfortable use in all areas of life. Especially in academic life in the era of information technology, GIS is the most effective use of this technology as well as being an extremely necessary tool for use on the university campus. GIS helps in decision-making at a planning stage and also provides support to institutions in the campus. A GIS for university campus must be supported by a software interface system. In this study, a map-based information system was designed for the campus of Baghdad University. The information system has been developed based on the map of the Campus in order to meet the expectations of both academic and administrative staff as well as the students who want to get information about the University, its buildings and infrastructure.
