Article A Case Study of Structural Failure of Mounting Systems for Solar Panels from South-Eastern Turkey: An Investigation of Design Parameters under Extreme Weather Events(2019) Çelik, Gence Genç; Çelik, O.; 101566One of the biggest demand of growing population, and cornerstone of the socio-economical growth of Nations, Energy is expected today to be Sustainable, Easy to Reach, Economical, and Continuous. As one of the most common and imperative contributors of this Clean Energy Future, Solar Energy in various forms takes a significant role whole around the World. And It shows a great potential particularly for Turkey which imports the majority of its Energy Resources - including Conventional Ones - from Out Sources, to decrease Energy Dependency on Out-of-country Bases and increase awareness to develop competition in New Technology and Production Fields. Based on a Structural Failure Case of Supporting Frames designed for Solar Photovoltaics (PV) in a Solar Power Plant from Turkey, this paper addresses the significance of Local and Site-Specific Investigation of Climate Data to properly decide on Structural Design Parameters -particularly Loads of Snow and Wind- by staying still comformable with National Codes and Standards.Article A Novel Analytical Method for Throughput Calculation of Wireless Ad-Hoc Networks Running Different Routing Algorithms(2018) Preveze, Barbaros; 17573Because of the increasing number of internet related applications, the role of total router transmission delay became much more important for the service quality. For this purpose, the tunneling techniques have been widely used especially for real time multimedia transmission to have less number of route constructions and to be able to forward each packet at each router without the need of reaching the upper OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) layers. But, in mobile networks, since the network experience with more changes in traffic conditions and node locations, tunnels will be reconstructed for many times and some extra delay will occur to reconstruct these tunnels. In this work, the place of the tunneling algorithm is taken by the well-known MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) protocol and for confirmation the throughput calculations are made by considering two different routing algorithms, one of which is AEABR algorithm proposed in [1] (shown in [2] that it improves the system throughput w.r.t Fastest path Routing algorithm [3] for various vehicular velocities), and the other one is Fastest Path routing algorithm [3]. In this work a novel analytical method for throughput calculation of wireless ad-hoc networks running aforementioned routing algorıthms is proposed including the effects of extra delay caused by extra Route Reconstructions (RRC).Conference Object A Sequential Coding Approach for Short Length LT Codes over A WGN Channel(2017) Abdulkhaleq, Nadhir Ibrahim; Gazi, OrhanLuby Transform (LT) codes which can be considered as one of the first type of rate less codes are introduced to be an efficient erasure code. In such codes a fountain of encoded symbols is continuously transmitted until the successfully delivery of all the data packets. Whenever the receiver collects N noisy encoded symbols the decoding operation starts. Usually belief propagation (BP) algorithm is used to decipher the code and extract the k data symbols. In this paper, short length LT codes are generated using efficient sequential encoding approach (SEA) and performance measurements have been done over additive white Gaussian (A WGN) channel. This coding technique generates its degree in a repeated sequential manner which yields a mutual relation between adjacent codes that will be used in the decoding part. The decoding complexity of the proposed structure is similar to that of the Raptor codes. The simulation results show that the proposed approach has better performance in terms of error floor and successful decoding ratio when compared to LT codes using robust soliton distribution (RSD) and memorybased-RSD (MBRSD) even when supported by belief propagation-pattern recognition (BP-PR) technique.Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 7Abstraction-Based Control for Not Necessarily Closed Behaviours(IFAC Secretariat, 2011) Moor, T.; Schmidt, K.; Wittmann, T.This paper addresses abstraction-based supervisory control for plant and specification behaviours that are not necessarily ω-closed, i.e. plant behaviours that exhibit eventuality properties and specifications that impose eventuality properties on the closed loop. Technically, the core idea is to combine results from previous work on abstraction-based supervision of input-output behaviours with results on supervisory control of ω-languages. As our main result, we identify a controllability condition for the plant, that ensures a nonblocking closed-loop behaviour with a controller that has been obtained for a plant abstraction. © 2011 IFAC.Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 5Abstraction-Based Supervisory Control for Recon-Gurable Manufacturing Systems(IFAC Secretariat, 2013) Khalid, H.M.; Kirik, M.S.; Schmidt, K.W.; 271229Reconfiguration control for discrete event systems (DES) is concerned with the realization of different system configurations by modification of the supervisory control loop. In this paper, we study the reconfiguration supervisor design for reconfigurable manufacturing systems (RMS) that comprise multiple components. We construct a modular supervisor for each configuration and system component in order to realize each active configuration and to quickly change between configurations. Different from the existing literature that is focused on monolithic design, our method is abstraction-based, and, hence applicable to large-scale DES. Article Citation - WoS: 110Citation - Scopus: 112Active Laser Radar Systems With Stochastic Electromagnetic Beams in Turbulent Atmosphere(Optica Publishing Group, 2008) Cai, Yangjian; Korotkova, Olga; Eyyuboglu, Halil T.; Baykal, Yahya; 7688; 7812Propagation of stochastic electromagnetic beams through paraxial ABCD optical systems operating through turbulent atmosphere is investigated with the help of the ABCD matrices and the generalized Huygens-Fresnel integral. In particular, the analytic formula is derived for the cross-spectral density matrix of an electromagnetic Gaussian Schell-model (EGSM) beam. We applied our analysis for the ABCD system with a single lens located on the propagation path, representing, in a particular case, the unfolded double-pass propagation scenario of active laser radar. Through a number of numerical examples we investigated the effect of local turbulence strength and lens' parameters on spectral, coherence and polarization properties of the EGSM beam. The prospect theory argues that losses have higher impact than gains. We integrate the prospect theory into PROMETHEE through defining new preference functions. The proposed approach is behaviorally realistic and tolerates some degree of intransitivities in the preferences of the decision maker. For determining the criteria weights, we utilize pairwise comparison method of Analytic Hierarchy Process. Performance of the approach is demonstrated on a university ranking problem.Article An Exploratory Study to Assess Digital Map Zoom/Pan/Rotate Methods with HoloLens(2018) Kılınç, İsmail; Yılmaz, MuratGeographical map display plays an important part of a GIS (GeographicalInformation System). The usability of a map display is certainly depends on how easilyuser navigates through spatial data and selects features on it. Currently, desktop computerbased GIS applications uses mouse movements, buttons and scroll for a set of functionssuch as zoom, pan and rotate. However currently Hololens supports only gaze, air tapgesture and voice commands as an input. Although the functionality looks simple, it ischallenging to find optimal solution by using input devices for those functions even whilecreating in a desktop application. This study aims to assess an optimal way to enable thesefunctions on hologram maps by investigating its validity and usability.Article Analysing Iraqi Railways Network by Applying Specific Criteria Using the Gis Techniques(Coll Science Women, Univ Baghdad, 2019) Naji, Hayder Fans; Maras, H. Hakan; 34410The railways network is one of the huge infrastructure projects. Therefore, dealing with these projects such as analyzing and developing should be done using appropriate tools, i.e. GIS tools. Because, traditional methods will consume resources, time, money and the results maybe not accurate. In this research, the train stations in all of Iraq's provinces were studied and analyzed using network analysis, which is one of the most powerful techniques within GIS. A free trial copy of ArcGIS (R) 10.2 software was used in this research in order to achieve the aim of this study. The analysis of current train stations has been done depending on the road network, because people used roads to reach those train stations. The data layers for this study were collected and prepared to meet the requirements of network analyses within GIS. In this study, the current train stations in Iraq were analyzed and studied depending on accessibility value for those stations. Also, to know the numbers of people who can reach those stations within a walking time of 20 minutes. So, this study aims to analyze the current train stations according to multiple criteria by using network analysis in order to find the serviced areas around those stations. Results will be presented as digital maps layers with their attribute tables that show the beneficiaries from those train stations and serviced areas around those stations depending on specific criteria, with a view to determine the size of this problem and to support the decision makers in case of locating new train stations within the best locations for it.Article Citation - WoS: 12Analysis of Dengue Transmission Dynamic Model by Stability and Hopf Bifurcation With Two-Time Delays(Imr Press, 2023) Ambalarajan, Venkatesh; Sivakumar, Vinoth; Dhandapani, Prasantha Bharathi; Baleanu, Dumitru; Murugadoss, Prakash Raj; 56389Background: Mathematical models reflecting the epidemiological dynamics of dengue infection have been discovered dating back to 1970. The four serotypes (DENV-1 to DENV-4) that cause dengue fever are antigenically related but different viruses that are transmitted by mosquitoes. It is a significant global public health issue since 2.5 billion individuals are at risk of contracting the virus. Methods: The purpose of this study is to carefully examine the transmission of dengue with a time delay. A dengue transmission dynamic model with two delays, the standard incidence, loss of immunity, recovery from infectiousness, and partial protection of the human population was developed. Results: Both endemic equilibrium and illness-free equilibrium were examined in terms of the stability theory of delay differential equations. As long as the basic reproduction number (R0) is less than unity, the illness-free equilibrium is locally asymptotically stable; however, when R0 exceeds unity, the equilibrium becomes unstable. The existence of Hopf bifurcation with delay as a bifurcation parameter and the conditions for endemic equilibrium stability were examined. To validate the theoretical results, numerical simulations were done. Conclusions: The length of the time delay in the dengue transmission epidemic model has no effect on the stability of the illness-free equilibrium. Regardless, Hopf bifurcation may occur depending on how much the delay impacts the stability of the underlying equilibrium. This mathematical modelling is effective for providing qualitative evaluations for the recovery of a huge population of afflicted community members with a time delay.Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 2Analysis of Heat Transfer Enhancement in Tubes With Capsule Dimpled Surfaces and Al2o3-Water Nanofluid(Turkish Soc thermal Sciences Technology, 2022) Ibrahim, Mahmoud Awni A. Haj; Turkoglu, Hasmet; Yapici, Ekin Ozgirgin; 31329This study aims to numerically investigate and evaluate the enhancement of heat transfer by new capsule dimples on tube surfaces for flow of water and Al2O3-water nanofluid with different concentrations, under uniform surface heat flux. The originality of this work lies in combining two passive heat transfer enhancement methods such as geometrical improvements and nanofluids together. Capsule dimples with different depths were considered. Al2O3- water nanofluid was modeled as a single-phase flow based on the mixture properties. The effects of dimple depth and nanoparticle concentrations on Nusselt number, friction factor and performance evaluation criteria (PEC) were studied. Numerical computations were performed using ANSYS Fluent commercial software for 2000-14000 Reynolds number range. It was found that when laminar, transient and fully developed turbulent flow cases are considered, increase in the dimple depth increases the Nusselt number and friction factor for both pure water and Al2O3-water nanofluids cases. Also, the friction factor increases as dimple depth increases. Results show that increase in PEC is more pronounced in the laminar region than in the transition region, it starts to decrease for turbulent flows. For nanofluid, PEC values are considerably higher than pure water cases. The variation of PEC for capsule dimpled tubes are dependent on flow regimes and dimple depths. Increasing the nano particle volume concentration and dimple depth in laminar flows increase the PEC significantly.Article Citation - WoS: 8Citation - Scopus: 8Analysis of Quantum Radar Cross-Section by Canonical Quantization Method (Full Quantum Theory)(Ieee-inst Electrical Electronics Engineers inc, 2020) Salmanogli, Ahmad; Gokcen, DincerThis article investigates the difference between two quantum-based theories to calculate the radar cross-section (RCS). Quantum radar cross-section (QRCS) has been commonly analyzed using the dipole approximation method, and the related results show that it can improve the sidelobe of the interference pattern in contrast to the classical methods. This study, on the other hand, utilizes the canonical quantization (or microscopic) method, which is a more comprehensive theory than the dipole approximation method to calculate the radar cross-section. It is shown that there are some similarities between two methods; nonetheless, there are some crucial quantities and factors that have been ignored in the dipole approximation methods. The main difference arises due to the interaction Hamiltonian that two methods relied on. The theoretical calculation shows some critical points suggesting that the dipole approximation method cannot cover all aspects of the radar cross-section calculation. To verify the mentioned point, we establish a new method in which the radar cross-section is calculated by merging the quantum approach with the method of moment (MoM), called quantum-method of moment (QMoM). The simulation results show that the newly established method is in harmony with the canonical quantization method.Article Citation - WoS: 183Citation - Scopus: 193Analysis of Reciprocity of Cos-Gaussian and Cosh-Gaussian Laser Beams in a Turbulent Atmosphere(Optical Soc Amer, 2004) Eyyuboglu, HT; Baykal, Y; 7688; 7812In a turbulent atmosphere, starting with a cos-Gaussian excitation at the source plane, the average intensity profile at the receiver plane is formulated. This average intensity profile is evaluated against the variations of link lengths, turbulence levels, two frequently used free-space optics wavelengths, and beam displacement parameters. We show that a cos-Gaussian beam, following a natural diffraction, is eventually transformed into a cosh-Gaussian beam. Combining our earlier results with the current findings, we conclude that cos-Gaussian and cosh-Gaussian beams act in a reciprocal manner after propagation in turbulence. The rates (paces) of conversion in the two directions are not the same. Although the conversion of cos-Gaussian beams to cosh-Gaussian beams can happen over a wide range of turbulence levels (low to moderate to high), the conversion of cosh-Gaussian beams to cos-Gaussian beams is pronounced under relatively stronger turbulence conditions. Source and propagation parameters that affect this reciprocity have been analyzed. Since this inte-gral is highly oscillatory, Levin's method can be used for the solution, providing high accuracy. In Levin's method, the integration domain is divided into equally spaced sub-intervals, and the integrals are solved by transfer-ring them into differential equations. This article uses a new optimization algorithm to determine the location of these interval points (knots) to improve the method's accuracy. Two different antenna design examples are pre-sented to validate the accuracy and efficiency of the pro-posed method for antenna synthesis applications.Article Antenna Synthesis by Levin's Method Using Reproducing Kernel Functions(Applied Computational Electromagnetics Soc, 2023) Sener, Goker; 17740An antenna synthesis application is presented by solving a highly oscillatory Fourier integral using a stable and accurate Levin's algorithm. In antenna synthesis, the current distribution is obtained by the inverse Fourier integral of the antenna radiation pattern. Since this integral is highly oscillatory, the Levin method can be used for its solution. However, when the number of nodes or the frequency increases, the Levin method becomes unstable and ineffective due to the large condition number of the interpolation matrix. Thus, an improved scheme of the method is used in an antenna synthesis application in which reproducing kernel functions are used as the basis of the approximation function. The accuracy of the new method is verified by a log-periodic antenna example. The error and stability analysis results show that the new method is more stable and accurate than other well-known kernels, especially for a large number of nodes.Article Citation - WoS: 14Citation - Scopus: 18Application of Bilstm-Crf Model With Different Embeddings for Product Name Extraction in Unstructured Turkish Text(Springer London Ltd, 2024) Arslan, Serdar; 325411Named entity recognition (NER) plays a pivotal role in Natural Language Processing by identifying and classifying entities within textual data. While NER methodologies have seen significant advancements, driven by pretrained word embeddings and deep neural networks, the majority of these studies have focused on text with well-defined grammar and structure. A significant research gap exists concerning NER in informal or unstructured text, where traditional grammar rules and sentence structure are absent. This research addresses this crucial gap by focusing on the detection of product names within unstructured Turkish text. To accomplish this, we propose a deep learning-based NER model which combines a Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) architecture with a Conditional Random Field (CRF) layer, further enhanced by FastText embeddings. To comprehensively evaluate and compare our model's performance, we explore different embedding approaches, including Word2Vec and Glove, in conjunction with the Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory and Conditional Random Field (BiLSTM-CRF) model. Furthermore, we conduct comparisons against BERT to assess the efficacy of our approach. Our experimentation utilizes a Turkish e-commerce dataset gathered from the internet, where traditional grammatical and structural rules may not apply. The BiLSTM-CRF model with FastText embeddings achieved an F1 score value of 57.40%, a precision value of 55.78%, and a recall value of 59.12%. These results indicate promising performance in outperforming other baseline techniques. This research contributes to the field of NER by addressing the unique challenges posed by unstructured Turkish text and opens avenues for improved entity recognition in informal language settings, with potential applications across various domains.
