Based on the results of the study, it is concluded that loyalty cards have no impact on customers’s store loyalty. On the contrary, it is observed that customers that use their loyalty cards frequently tend to shop at different stores with different loyalty cards.Article Citation Count: Yaşar Başkaraağaç, Nermin (2014). Although the linear Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF), Philips Perron (PP), test provide evidence of the existence of a unit root, which means that the series are nonstationary, KPSS test result support the null hypothesis of existence of the stationary series. A nonlinear test as an alternative approach to investigate whether there are nonlinearities in the series is also taken into consideration. KSS, the nonlinear testing procedure provide some supportive evidence of a nonlinear price convergence among the Russian Federation and USA.Article Citation Count: Parıltı, N.; Külter Demirgüneş, B.; Özsaçmacı, B. "Ethical İssues İn Marketing: An Application For Understanding Ethical Decision Making", Vol.38, No.2, pp.245-298.Ethical İssues İn Marketing: An Application For Understanding Ethical Decision Making(2014) Parıltı, Nurettin; Külter Demirgüneş, Banu; Özsaçmacı, Bülent; 19729In recent years business ethics and social responsibility have gained great importance in marketing practices, especially in societal marketing practices. Businesses infinitely struggle to indicate their contributions to society. Consumers consciously evaluate this contribution. Manipulated consumer choices and unethical marketing applications can affect purchasing behavior. Particularly intense competition, globalization and societal consciousness transform businesses into social organizations and lead them into marketing efforts offering social value. Although business ethics and social responsibility of businesses have gained more attention in recent years, defining consumers’ perceptions on ethical issues is still minimal. This study presents an empirical research of consumer perceptions on ethical issues. Reflection of this perception on purchasing behavior is also another important issue to be considered. The aim of this study is to investigate the factors related with ethical issues in marketing practices and to reveal possible influences of these factors on consumers’ ethical decision making. The main objective of the study is to find out consumers’ perceptions on businesses’ ethical issues such as misleading advertising, deceptive packaging and to reveal the impact of these issues on their ethical purchasing behavior or ethical decision making. It also reveals which criteria is more important for ethical decision making. This study reveals that consumers reflect their ethical perceptions on their purchasing behavior. Each ethical issue has been found to be a positive effect on purchasing behavior. Businesses’ practices on packaging has been indicated as the most effective ethical issue on purchasing behavior. The study is considered to be a significant outcome for businesses to direct their advertising, packaging and other activities.Article Citation Count: Akagün Ergin, Elif; Özsaömacı, Bülent. (2014). "Insights into Consumer Preference of Foreign Brand Names: Reality or Myth?", International Journal of Marketing Studies, Vol.6, No.4, pp.157-164.Insights into Consumer Preference of Foreign Brand Names: Reality or Myth?(2014) Akagün Ergin, Elif; Özsaçmacı, Bülent; 120408; 19729This study builds from LeClerc et al.’s (1989, 1994) work on foreign branding effects, but it does so in the context of a developing East European country; as in the case of Turkey. The purpose of this exploratory research is to examine consumers’ attitudes towards products with foreign brand names and also to assess the impact of foreign brand names on the purchasing decision making. In the data collection phase of the study an in-depth interviews were conducted with 23 participants in the city of Ankara, Turkey. The results show that products with foreign brand names elicit more positive consumer attitude than products with national brands. Overall, the findings suggest that consumers prefer to purchase products with foreign brand names for a variety of reasons which including quality, reliability, functionality and prestige. The results have important implications for domestic and foreign manufacturers with regards to the consumer-side effects of their decisions on branding strategies and on their competitive foreign branding decisions.Conference Object Citation Count: Demirgüneş, Banu Külter; Özsaçmacı, Bülent (2016). "EXPLORING THE EFFECT OF CONSUMERS' FOOD-RELATED DECISION MAKING STYLES ON NATIONAL BRAND VS. STORE BRAND CHOICE", PROCEEDINGS OF THE 4TH BUSINESS & MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE, 4th IISES Business and Management Conference, pp. 108-137.EXPLORING THE EFFECT OF CONSUMERS' FOOD-RELATED DECISION MAKING STYLES ON NATIONAL BRAND VS. STORE BRAND CHOICE(2016) Demirgüneş, Banu Külter; Özsaçmacı, Bülent; 19729It is important for marketers to understand the individuals' buying decisions in a competitive environment. The concept of decision making style is one of the key determinants of consumers' behavioral patterns. This study aims to explore the effects of consumers' decision making styles on buying national and store branded food products. To examine consumer decision making styles, Sproles and Kendall's (1986) The Consumer Style Inventory (CSI) is adopted in the study. The framework of this study is based on eight consumer decision making style, expected to shape consumers' national and store brand choice on food products. The empirical analysis is based on data obtained from consumers living in Kirsehir, a city in Turkey. Questionnaires was handed over to 500 customer of retail stores both selling national and their own brands. Firstly, exploratory factor analysis is used to confirm the model, then multiple regression analysis is used to test the hypothesis and to compare consumer's national and store brand choice, in the context of their decision making styles. The study is expected to help retailers develop suitable strategies for national and store branded food products. In fact it is important to develop a certain and an accurate understanding of consumers' decision making styles for successful marketing and advertising strategies. Besides, different marketing strategies for both national and store branded food products can be tailored to the characteristics of consumers.Article Citation Count: Yaşar, Nermin (2017). "The relationship between energy consumption and economic growth: Evidence from different income country groups", International Journal of Energy Economics and Policy, Vol. 7, No. 2, pp. 86-97.The relationship between energy consumption and economic growth: Evidence from different income country groups(2017) Yaşar, Nermin; 230528This study analyses the relationship between energy consumption and economic growth for 119 countries during the period of 1970-2015, classified into four groups regarding to the World Bank income ranking. The main motivation of this study is to analyze whether the causal relationship differs between different income groups of countries. For this purpose, panel auto regressive distributed lag boundary approach and Granger causality test were used. The results of the study indicate that the causal relationship between energy use and economic growth differs depending on which income group country belongs to. We conclude that the feedback hypothesis is supported for upper-middle income group in the long run and high-income group, while conservation hypothesis is supported for upper-middle income group in the short run and lower-middle income group in the long run. Finally, neutrality hypothesis is supported for low and lower middle-income groups in the short run. (2018). "Is There a Financial Accelerator Mechanism in the Turkish Banking Industry?", Business and Economics Research Journal, Vol.9, No.4, pp.787-798.Is There a Financial Accelerator Mechanism in the Turkish Banking Industry?(2018) Özşuca Erenoğlu, Ekin Ayşe; 237965This paper empirically investigates the cyclical behavior of price-cost marginsfor Turkish banks over the 2002q1-2017q3 period by exploiting dynamic panel datamodeling approaches. The estimation results indicate that margins behavecountercyclically during economic fluctuations. It appears that Turkish banks’ price-costmargins tend to stay high acting countercyclical during economic downturns, which maylimit the supply of loans and thereby, cause a further reduction in production, deepeningthe contraction. Specifically, several bank-specific characteristics, that is; banks’liquidity, capitalization and size, together with the monetary policy and marketconcentration in the banking industry are found to be crucial in explaining thecountercyclical behavior of net interest margins in Turkey. Furthermore, the recentglobal financial crisis in the late 2008 seems to have a considerable effect on the banksmargins as well. Overall, these findings provide evidence for the existence of “financialaccelerator” at work in the Turkish economy during the period under investigation.Book Part Citation Count: Yaşar, Nermin; Telatar, M.E. "The relationship between foreign direct investment and CO 2 emissions across a panel of countries", Energy Economy, Finance and Geostrategy, pp. 157-169.The relationship between foreign direct investment and CO 2 emissions across a panel of countries(2018) Yaşar, Nermin; Telatar, M.E.; 230528This paper analyses the relationship between foreign direct investment inflows and pollution emissions for 139 countries during the period of 1970-2015 and the countries are classified into four groups regarding to the World Bank income ranking. The main motivation of this study is to analyse, whether the causal relationship differs between different income groups. For this purpose, panel ARDL (Auto Regressive Distributed Lag) boundary approach and Granger causality test are used. The results of the study indicate that the causal relationship between FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) and CO 2 emissions differs depending on which income group country belongs to. We conclude that, while there is not statistically significant short-run causality relationship running from FDI to CO 2 emission for high income, upper middle income and low income group countries, the pollution haven hypothesis is supported for lower middle income group countries. "Stationarity properties of renewable energy consumption in the commonwealth of independent states", International Journal of Energy Economics and Policy, Vol. 10, No. 1, pp. 155-159.Stationarity properties of renewable energy consumption in the commonwealth of independent states(2020) Yaşar, Nermin; 230528This study investigates the stochastic properties of renewable energy consumption series across 11 Commonwealth of Independent States countries through the period of 1990-2015. For this purpose, along with traditional stationarity analysis recently improved unit root techniques which allows for nonlinear adjustments in the data generating process are used in this paper. Based on our findings we may conclude that, consideration of nonlinearity in regression process causes to more frequent non rejection of the null hypothesis of stationarity. It implies that ignoring possible nonlinearities in time series regression process may lead to some misleading results. Hereby, fluctuations in global energy supply and trade systems influence renewable energy consumption in nonlinear pattern and policy-makers should take it into consideration in terms of proper energy policy implication.Article Citation Count: Özsuca Erenoğlu, E.A.; Acar, E.Ö. "Can US Wage Increases be Regarded as a Leading Indicator for Bond Rates?", World Journal of Applied Economics, Vol.6, No.2, pp.169-176.Can US Wage Increases be Regarded as a Leading Indicator for Bond Rates?(2020) Özsuca Erenoğlu, Ekin Ayşe; Acar, Elif Öznur; 237965; 48566After the subprime meltdown, the Federal Reserve focused its attention on US non-farm payroll data in order to pave the way for its fund rate hikes. As time went by,the Federal Reserve deemed particularly one sub-component of this data, namely theincrements on average weekly wage growth as a proxy for inflation and thus a plausibleexplanation for raising the interest rates. In that aspect, we decide to elaborate on thisissue further and examine whether this implemented strategy indeed had a reflection inthe real market. For doing so, we intend to determine whether there is any causalityrelation in either direction between US average weekly wage increases and 10-yearTreasury Bond rates. We utilize the Toda-Yamamoto causality approach and comeup with a statistically significant result between wages and bond rates. For robustness,we also consider the unemployment rate and consumption expenditures as independentvariables.Book Part Citation Count: Özsaçmacı, Bülent; Dursun, Tolga. "Stochastic Pattern of Health Care Spending: Evidence from Nonlinear Panel Data Analysis", Review of Economics and Finance, Vol.19, pp.264-270.Stochastic Pattern of Health Care Spending: Evidence from Nonlinear Panel Data Analysis(2021) Yasar, Nermin; 230528This paper analyses the stochastic pattern of health care spending for 188 countries around the world which are categorized into four groups based on the World Bank income categories. The main motivation of this ar-ticle is to evaluate whether the stochastic features of total health care expenditure varies if decomposed into private and public health care consumption. To achieve this goal, in addition to conventional empirical methods, latterly de-veloped panel stationarity approaches are employed for both linear and nonlinear regression processes. Our results demonstrate that allowing for cross-section dependency between series and nonlinearity in the estimation process may lead to more often rejection of the null hypothesis of unit root for all series in panel data set.Article Citation Count: Yaşar, Nermin (2021). "The Causal Relationship Between Foreign Debt and Economic Growth: Evidence from Commonwealth Independent States", Foreign Trade Review, Vol. 56, No. 4, pp. 415-429.The Causal Relationship Between Foreign Debt and Economic Growth: Evidence from Commonwealth Independent States(2021) Yaşar, Nermin; 230528This study investigates the relationship between external borrowing and economic growth in the Commonwealth Independent States during the period 1995–2018. Autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model is employed to determine the co-integration relationship among the series and then vector error correction model (VECM) is used to analyse the causality between external debt and income. The obtained results suggest that there is a negative long-term unidirectional causal relationship running from external debt to GDP presenting a strong evidence of existence of debt overhang hypothesis. The possible reasons for this unidirectional causal relationship can be explained by poor management of provided financial resources and incomplete governance in economic transition process along with structural rigidities and immature institutions in these countries which, in the long term, resulted in insufficient capital charged to service external debt. The policymakers in these post-Soviet countries should not use foreign loans to capitalise the deficits in the economies; instead, they should be more determined in employing these funds in the areas that will create national value-added production and, thus, future income. Insights from the COVID-19 Pandemic(2023) Özşuca, Ekin Ayşe; 237965Utilizing survey data collected over three rounds, this paper investigates the impact of pre-COVID innovation performance, innovation type, sources of knowledge, and the moderating role of financial constraints on survival following the outbreak of COVID-19. The findings pinpoint a strong and positive link between firm survival and innovation, especially process innovation, confirming the ability of innovators to adapt to new conditions as a determinant of survival. Moreover, relying on internal knowledge is found to increase the chance of survival and adaptability to times of crisis. The results further indicate that access to finance strengthens the positive impact of innovation on firm survival/adaptation.
