Master Thesis Scalable, secure and interoperable design for the Internet of Things(2016) Albayati, Ammar Jameel HusseinA vast number of "things" have been used to meet innumerable commitments of ICT in our contemporary world. Most of these "things" are placed in different locations and regularly work to serve individual users or groups and give them the ability to access them by using their own networking, applications and/or individual databases. Most of these applications run these data exclusively. For these reasons, it will not be easy to integrate a third party application within them or ensure the security and privacy of collected data. Moreover, end users face difficulties in accessing these data from anywhere in a unified form. At the present moment, the adoption of delivering this technology in new ways is growing rapidly. In this thesis, a new design for the Internet of Things is proposed, which we call "Web IoT." The new design can play a role between things and stakeholders by virtualizing these entities and making them available to end users from anywhere. It also offers a wide range of tools and options for stakeholders to host many types of entities in one place, thereby giving them the ability to control and manage content, share this content in social networks, apply more personalization, dynamically update, and much more. Our design was tested in terms of scalability, functionality and flexibility. Web IoT will help to overcome the limitation of collected data in a secure and scalable manner.Master Thesis Unmanned surface vehicle with analytical drown map system(2019) Al-Dakheel, Saad Mazin ShihabDrowning occurring both at sea and in the ocean - especially the increasing cases among refugees requires the use of advanced technology and tools to address this problem. The Unmanned Surface Vehicle is a smart boat that can be self or remotely controlled, this boat is hired in marine surveys, explorations, analysis … etc. In this thesis, the analytical drowning mapping system is designed for a hypothetical unmanned surface vehicle with touch sensors installed on the platform and GNSS. This marine vehicle works on detecting the people who are exposed to drowning with their approximate number and location besides the marine vehicle's location. The designed system is provided with an algorithm that works on determining the dangerous zones on the map based on the number of people who hold the boat and their locations. By using the grid property on the map, the dangerous zones algorithm works on determining the dangerous zones into level on the map and colored these zones according to the dangerous level. These areas are colored starts with green until the red color. Where all data is saved for every operation. Due to limited storage and processing capacity of physical units with a large number of data, cloud computing has been adopted to solve this problem. All data and information generated from the sensor and mapping system will be stored in the cloud in real time. In order to increase the chance of saving the people lives who are at risk of drowning in sea, this thesis has been partially addressed this challenge which have been neglected in previous studies.Master Thesis Cloud computing impact on communication and service sector: Iraq case study(Çankaya Üniversitesi, 2018) Almafrchi, Sabah Salam HusseinRapid advancements in technology have enhanced the significance of the use of cloud technology. The deployment of cloud computing as effective technology integration has been successful, particularly across the developed states of the world. However, there have been certain behavioural issues regarding the cloud technology activation in certain developing regions, rather than the technical limitations. In the context, the current research aims to evaluate the impact of deployment of cloud computing on the communication and service sector of Iraq. Even though the cloud computing approach seems appealing, yet certain challenges of adverse extent are encountered across the states where internet penetration and technology acceptance is not considerable. Similar is the case with Iraq; hence, the researcher has targeted the communication and service sector of Iraq with respect to assessing the deployment of cloud computing. In this regard, the constructs of UTAUT model as identified dependent and independent variables of the study have been employed, in terms of conducting a multiple-item 5-point scale online survey across 251 IT experts of the targeted domain. Resultantly, it has been established that there have been certain challenges of disregarding cloud computing as an effective measure of enhancing productivity, and efficiency of the employees in a secure and feasible manner. Therefore, the study has recommended training and awareness programs that must present the credibility and integrity of cloud computing as an effective technological deployment. These programs assist accepting the cloud computing technology by the employees in the communication sector, which enables the employees, as well as the organizations, providing more efficient tasks by reducing the costs and efforts needed to perform the exact same tasks without the use of cloud computing technologies. This improvement also assists other employees and organization to accept that technology, which eventually leads to more and more acceptance to the cloud computing technology in the communication and service sector.Master Thesis The impact of cloud computing in delivering sustainable business welfare as a part of a green ict strategy in developing countries(Çankaya Üniversitesi, 2018) Salih, Bawar HadiThe research is intended to assess the role of cloud computing in delivering sustainable business welfare in the developing countries, specifically in Iraq. In order to collected pertinent information, the researcher had adopted quantitative research approach. In this account, primary data was collected by conducting a survey with 152 IT professionals, working in the Iraqi companies. However, secondary data was collected through pertinent literature, by accessing Google Scholar and EBSCOhost. The collected data was analysed by using descriptive analysis. The analysis has revealed that cloud computing has great significance in the implementation of green ICT strategy; however, Iraqi companies are needed to put more focus on the improvement of their employee's skills and expertise so as to accelerate cloud adoption in IraqMaster Thesis Performance indicators to consider while selecting cloud database service provider(Çankaya Üniversitesi, 2014) Ali, Abbas HusseinCloud computing is a new technology that provides software and hardware resources depending on customer specifications. A cloud database is one of the services that a cloud provider may offer. Many service providers are available on the market; however, selecting a qualified provider is an issue for customers. Performance indicators can be used to represent, measure, and compare the quality of service providers, which leads to creating a broad understanding among cloud service providers. This thesis proposes performance indicators to evaluate cloud database service providers. The first general attributes mostly related to software as service depending on the Service Measurement Index (SMI), then cloud database attributes are introduced. As a limitation of the scope of this thesis, the performance indicators have not been tested in an organization using cloud database service. The performance indicators are suggested to help customers while selecting suitable service provider to their requirementsMaster Thesis Investigation of amazon and google for fault tolerance strategies in cloud computing services(2015) Al-Raheym, ShereenCloud computing has recently become an attractive topic due to its ability to offer information technology solutions through virtual machines as on-demand services to share and consume resources over the Internet. As a result of rapid development in such services, the necessity of fault tolerance in the cloud is a major concern with reliability, availability and dependability is more critical to this new service type. This thesis investigates techniques and means of tolerating cloud services as well as cloud customers’ systems/enterprises execution over the cloud safe from failures. As one of this findings shows, failures in cloud enabled services should be expected to occur hence they should be handled. The essential features of implementing fault tolerance strategies guarantee the business continuity, avoid financial lost, recovering systems from failures, and provide disaster recovery as well. The specific focus is to explore scenarios of avoiding/recovering from failures through redundancy, checkpoint and replication. Commercial IaaS providers such as Amazon’s AWS and Google’s GCE are taken as examples as they tolerate their infrastructure from failures; in this way a robust architecture with fault tolerance property could be proposed for a system/enterprise. Hence, a general conceptual model with fault tolerance considerations has been proposed. With this basis, addressing potential failures in detail, implementing fault tolerance techniques, organizing teamwork to setup business policies are left for future work. Such limitations can be addressed through online questionnaires to collect information for case studies.Master Thesis Legacy applications migration on to cloud(2015) Al-Mahdawi, Hassan K. IbrahimCloud computing is defined as a type of computing that depends on sharing computing resources rather than using local computer resources. What makes this technology different than traditional client-server architecture is that the resources are shared through virtualized machines. This technology is becoming popular as a number advantages such as high scalability and reduced IT costs attract potential users. On the other hand, some challenges, such as legacy applications to be moved to cloud computing environment, are to be discussed. In this work, possible stages to manage and undertake such a migration are attempted to be explored and described. The stages are proposed not only to describe the necessary steps but also to itemize related constraints for each level of migration. Main limitations include plans for migration hence a comprehensive/complete work-flow targeting organization specific requirements such as financial, cultural and legislative parameters remains as a future research avenue. Nevertheless, main benefit of this work is to assist organizations who need to migrate legacy applications onto cloud environment is supported as the work-flow is argued be used as a base to determine the constraints/issues that may arise at the stages.Master Thesis Quality attributes investigation for saas in service level agreement(2015) Almallah, Ashraf Nabeel MohammedtaibThe cloud computing has been growing and becoming a new service model in business; in parallel, more service providers appear in the market. Hence, both quality and reliability of cloud computing services become essential topics as Quality of Service (QoS) requirements play major roles in service/provider selection. However, there is a significant concern for the QoS attributes considered in a service level agreement (SLA) while selecting service provider. Clarifying QoS attributes and related metrics for software as a service (SaaS) in SLAs are aimed in this work as the research question. It is partially observed that SaaS concerns more quality attributes than other services; also, availability of services is more considered in all SLAs. In this work, possible QoS attributes and metrics to be considered in SLAs for SaaS are presented. Main benefit of this work is defended as the QoS attributes are to be given major importance in the negotiation and evaluations of SLAs of cloud service. As major limitations, law/regulations, government/company policies and budgeting are not discussed. All these were led to answer the research questions by present 12 quality attributes with related metrics for SaaS.
