    Industry 4.0 Readiness of Smes: Active Participants or Silent Audience of the Revolution

    Nowadays, the technological consequences of the Fourth Industrial Revolution affect all organisations. However, the current reactions of SMEs have yet to be explored. For this reason, this study focused on the actual status of SMEs and aimed to determine their readiness and awareness of Industry 4.0 technologies. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 44 SME managers operating in Ankara, constituting the study sample. Research findings were examined within the scope of 3 main themes determined by content analysis. In this context, it has been concluded that SMEs in the sample have low awareness of Industry 4.0, and their readiness needs to be improved.

    Örgütsel Alanda Meşruiyet Kavramının Açılımı: Kurumsal Ve Stratejik Meşruiyet

    Bu çalışma, meşruiyet kavramını örgütsel alanda değerlendirmek üzere örgüt yazınındaki meşruiyet yaklaşımlarını tartışmaktadır. Çalışmada ki temel tartışma örgüt yazınında ‘meşruiyet’ kavramına yüklenen anlamlar ve bu anlamların örgütler için taşıdığı önemdir. Çalışmada örgüt yazını içinde sınıflandırılmış ve sınıflandırma sonucunda hangi meşruiyet tipinin örgütler için önceliğe sahip olabileceği tartışılmıştır. Bu çalışma makro bir perspektifle, ampirik olarak çalışılması çok güç olan meşruiyet kavramını örgütler açısından taşıdığı anlamlar itibariyle sorgulamaya çalışmıştır

    Bireysel Öncüllerinin İş-aile Çatışmasına Etkisi: Covid-19 Pandemisi Nedeniyle Evden Çalışanlar Üzerine Bir Araştırma

    İş-aile çatışmasının, çalışanlar, aileleri ve örgütler üzerindeki olumsuz etkileri nedeniyle, mevcut araştırmaların çoğunluğu, iş-aile çatışmasının sonuçlarına odaklanmıştır; bu nedenle, iş-aile çatışmasına neden olan etkenler ile ilgili araştırmalar sınırlı kalmıştır. Bu sınırlılığa istinaden, bu çalışmada iş-aile çatışmasının önemli bireysel öncülleri olarak belirlenen, beş faktör kişilik özellikleri ve duygusal zekanın iş-aile çatışması üzerindeki etkilerine odaklanılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemi, kamu kurumlarında çalışan ve Covid-19 pandemi koşulları nedeniyle iş yaşamlarında ilk defa evden çalışma deneyimi yaşayan 220 çalışanı kapsamaktadır. Araştırmanın bulguları, sorumluluk kişilik özelliği yüksek olan çalışanların daha az iş-aile çatışması yaşadıklarını gösterirken; duygusal dengesizlik kişilik özelliği yüksek olan çalışanların daha fazla iş-aile çatışması yaşadıklarını ortaya çıkarmıştır. Bununla birlikte, duygusal zekanın iş-aile çatışması üzerindeki etkisinin anlamlı olmadığı belirlenmiştir. Araştırma ile ilgili sınırlılıklar, katkılar ve öneriler ilaveten tartışılmıştır.

    Göç Yönetiminde Lojistik Konum Seçimi: Ege Bölgesi Üzerine Bir Inceleme

    Türkiye coğrafi konumu gereği önemli göç rotaları üzerinde bulunan bir ülkedir. Özellikle son yıllarda artan göç eden insan sayısındaki yoğunluk, Türkiye’deki göç olgusunun farklı yönlerden ele alınarak etkin bir şekilde yönetilmesini gerekli kılmıştır. Bu bağlamda, göç yönetiminde lojistik konum seçimi, önem arz eden konuların başında gelmektedir. Göç yönetiminin sürdürülebilirliği, operasyonel destek faaliyetlerin yürütülmesi ile doğrudan ilişkilidir. Destek faaliyetleri sadece sağlam zemine sahip bir lojistik yapı üzerine inşa edilebilir. Mevcut kaynakların verimli ve etkin kullanımı organizasyon yapısını güçlendirir ve aynı zamanda bu yapı içindeki personeli motive ve teşvik eder, bu da yönetimi güçlendirir. Bu çalışmada, Ege Bölgesi’nde göç yönetiminde operasyonel faaliyetlerin sürdürülmesi konusunda önem taşıyan lojistik desteği sağlamak amacıyla kurulabilecek bir lojistik tesisin yer seçimi sorununa yönelik çözüm önerisi sunulmaktadır. Çalışmada öncelikle Analitik Hiyerarşi Süreci (AHS) yöntemi kullanılarak lojistik yer seçimi kriterleri sıralanmıştır. Ardından, sıralanan kriterler doğrultusunda, MULTIMOORA tekniği kullanılarak lojistik yerler belirlenmiştir.

    Key Factors for Student Recruitment: The Issue of University Branding

    Considering the number of universities and the size of the young population targeted for higher education in Turkey, there is an urgent need for further research studies on university branding efforts. The aim of this exploratory research study is to explore specific factors/criteria that Turkish students consider during the process of selecting a graduate degree program at a university in the USA and to contribute to the limited research in the area of university branding. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), which is a structured technique for analyzing complex, multi-criteria decisions, has been used for this research. Surveys were applied to students in order to discover specific factors/criteria that Turkish students employ during the process of selecting a graduate degree program at a university in the USA. In this study, there are many decision-criterias that need to be taken into consideration and each criterion must be analyzed with respect to a specific university. The in-depth interviews with professors/education counselors, student survey applications, and the analysis of previous stream of related research has led to identification of criterias to be used in the study. Following the pairwise comparisons, a survey has been designed to assess the relative superiority of the 12-criteria in the model. The most prominent criteria during the process of selecting a graduate degree program was reported as “Post Graduation Job and Career Prospects”. The findings of this study can be used to support those who have the intention to develop a successful university brand.

    In Turkey, increasing focus to the concept of innovation underlined the importance of the related institutions’ role in the economic agenda. Hence, a clear understanding of the functions of the actors that makes up the country’s innovation system is important in policy formulation stages. Accordingly, the goal of this literature review is to analyze institutions’ duties that are active in the National System of Innovation and to assess recent developments’ contribution to the innovation policy targets. It has been observed that Turkey has a strong institutional infrastructure, but also has some problems concerning firm-based innovation, university-industry cooperation and development of innovation inputs

    Impact of Globalization on Organizational Form Die Away of Open Air Movie Theatres in Turkey

    Those asserting that globalization has a ‘convergence’ effect on institutional field point that, with globalization, models and practices acknowledged as ‘best practices’ will move from where they are institutionalized to other countries. With the late of 1980s, Turkey met with the American-origin ‘multiplex’ movie theatres. The main purpose of this study is to examine the expansion of ‘multiplex’ form of movie theatres and how such expansion affected the reduction in the number of previously existing forms such as open air movie theatres in Turkey. Based on the data of Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat), numbers and current statuses of ‘open-air movie theatres’ that previously existed in Turkey are discussed in the research.

    How to Manage the Mortgage Credit Risk in Turkey? Can Dual-indexed Mortgages be a Remedy?

    A market-oriented housing finance system has been under discussion in Turkey recently. In this article we analyze different types of mortgages that have been used in developed and developing countries to select the one that is most appropriate for Turkey-one which minimizes risks for both lenders and borrowers. Each type of mortgage presents different risks to borrowers and lenders. After taking into consideration the economic history of Turkey, we conclude that the most appropriate mortgage for Turkey that minimizes risk is the dual-indexed mortgage model. We test this model by using data from the most volatile period of the Turkish economy, applying historical simulation and Monte-Carlo simulation. We find that, using this model; the total loan is paid off in a reasonable period without causing substantial difficulty for lenders and borrowers. Analyses confirm that borrowers and lenders are exposed to minimum risk if this type of mortgage is originated in Turkey.

    How Do Enterprises Communicate Their Innovation Strategies? An Assessment and Comparison of Turkish Firms’ Website Statements

    Innovation strategy practices primarily aim to sustain competitive advantage and growth via new business models and added value. The goal of this study is to discover the extent of innovation statements communicated to stakeholders by Turkish firms listed in the second top 500 industrial enterprises ranking of Istanbul Chamber of Industry as of 2013 and 2014. To do this, topics closely related to innovation are examined via a comparative analysis of related website contents. The study includes four main parts. The first and second parts review the literature and theoretical background. The third part introduces the methodological framework of the paper including the profile of the firms under consideration and analytical procedures. Content analysis is used to group web-based information related to innovation and other notions. Groups include mission, vision and values, research and development ability, and innovation related topics which statement densities are discussed in the context of motivation for value creation. It has been deduced that the gradual increase in firms’ innovation awareness is also communicated to stakeholders especially in research and the context of development activities’. Finally this paper ends with a conclusion.

    Do Young Consumers Abandon Ship after a Celebrity Endorsement Scandal? Evidence from an Emerging Market

    Celebrity endorsement is an effective method of advertising due to the great influence they exertover the members of a society. The success of a brand can be completely intertwined with thesuccess of a celebrity. The research investigates the effectiveness of celebrity endorsements asa method of promotion in the minds of consumers today. Another major goal of this research isto explore whether Turkish consumers are affected by celebrity scandals and will continue similarpurchase behaviour subsequent to the publicizing of a scandal. Descriptive research is conductedon a sample of 390 participants to establish the overall attitudes, and purchase behaviour ofTurkish consumers.Through the data obtained via face-to-face surveys, it is concluded that themajority of consumers are highly critical about the private lives of celebrities and when acelebrity is involved in a scandal, this ultimately leads to an adverse influence on the decision topurchase a product or service endorsed by that celebrity. The results from this study hasconfirmed that there is a great risk for companies who use celebrity endorsements in the Turkishmarket, since consumers care significantly when the reputation of a celebrity is tarnished.Companies need to figure out how to distance themselves from a celebrity and do damage controlfollowing the eruption of a scandal in order to avoid the collapse of their brands.
