Ethical Climate as a Mediator Between Employees' Organizational Silence Behaviors and Their Trust in Leader: an Empirical Research on Insurance Sector Employees
(Ardabil industrial Management inst, 2018) Karabay, Melisa E.; Şener, İrge; Sener, Irge; Tezergil, Seher A.; İşletme
Leaders play a major role in determining effectiveness across all organizational levels compromising (individual, team and units through their ability of ensuring trust among their subordinates and co-workers). In this study, the effect of trust in leader on employees' organizational silence behavior and ethical climate as a mediating role was investigated. In order to measure the impact of the perceptions of employees' trust in their leaders on their silence behavior particularly on defensive, acquiescent, and pro-social silence, a survey was conducted among 811 employees working in various insurance companies in Istanbul, Turkey. To test the hypotheses, hierarchical regression technique was used. According to the findings, trust in leader negatively affected silence intentions of employees. Furthermore, the findings presented a supporting evidence of the full mediating effect of ethical climate for the relation between trust in leader and overall organizational silence, and acquiescent and pro-social silence behavior. However, findings revealed that ethical climate had a partial mediating effect on the relation between trust in leader and defensive silence behavior of employees. (C) AIMI Journals

The Effect of Knowledge Economy on Organizational Environments: Do the Governance Mechanisms Differ According To Institutional and Technical Environments
(int Business information Management Assoc-ibima, 2009) Sener, Irge; Şener, İrge; İşletme
Technological developments result in important changes for organizations and their environment. The most remarkable change in the organizational field is the widespread usage of Internet, a new information and communication technology (ICT). The changes depending on Internet, affect organizational structures, since they are designed compatible to the communication needs dependent on the technology. In some cases, however, the communication technologies can be developed in consistence with the organizational structure. This indicates that, when ICTs are taken into consideration, it occurs that there is no clear distinction between technical and institutional organizational environments. The ICTs dependent on Internet is both a legitimacy source for the organizations and an efficiency tool. Accordingly, in this study it is considered that the technical and institutional environments are interpenetrated and different types of governance mechanisms result due to the varying effects of the environmental pressures. Testable propositions are developed for different types of environments.

The Impacts Of Ethical Leadership On The Antisocial Behavior Of Employees: The Mediating Role Of Ethical Climate
(2013) Şener, İrge; Alpkan, Lütfihak; Elçi, Meral
Antisocial behaviors of employees lead to unfavorable outcomes for the organization. Creating an ethical environment through developing ethical leadership and building an ethical environment in the organizations, the antisocial behaviors of employees could be decreased. With this study, it was intended to investigate the effect of both ethical leadership and ethical climate on the occurrence of antisocial behaviors of employees. Using a sample of 468 employees in 30 firms operating in various industries in İstanbul, Kocaeli, Ankara and Antalya from Turkey, we find support for the hypothesized model. The findings of the research indicate a negative effect of presence of ethical leadership on the antisocial behaviors of employees. Besides, ethical climate both has a negative effect on antisocial behaviors of employees and also it mediates the relationship between ethical leadership and the antisocial behaviors of employees.

Board Composition and Organizational Performance: Environmental Characteristics Matter
(2011) Şener, İrge; Varoğlu, A. Kadir; Aren, Selim
Concern for board of directors considerably increased with the recent developments in the corporate governance field. Despite that extensive research was conducted, the understanding of the board and its effects is still limited. This is mainly because that the majority of the corporate governance research focused mostly on the direct relation of board characteristics with organizational outcomes, and neglected the effect of intervening variables, leading to inconclusive research findings. Deriving on this limitation, in this study, the effect of board composition on organizational performance was investigated for different environmental conditions, which are measured in terms of munificence and dynamism of the industry in which the organizations operate and product complexity of the organizations. In addition, the moderating effects of these dimensions of organizational task environments on the relationship between board composition and organizational performance were also addressed. Building on resource dependence theory, it is suggested that under different environmental conditions, different compositions of boards will positively influence organizational performance. Based on the data from 80 companies which shares are publicly traded in İstanbul Stock Exchange, the findings indicate that the effect of board composition on organizational performance vary among different environmental conditions.

Sustainability Reports Disclosures: Who are the Most Salient Stakeholders?
(Elsevier Science bv, 2016) Şener, İrge; Varoğlu, Abdulkadir; Karapolatgil, Ahmet Anıl
Due to the importance of stakeholders for the sustainability of the companies, there exists a research interest to identify the important stakeholders. With this study, most salient and other groups of stakeholders were identified based on a content analysis of sustainability reports of 78 large-scale companies. Although many researches are undertaken in developed countries based on sustainability reports that are popular tools for information disclosure for the companies, similar research in developing countries is still at infancy. The findings of the study indicate shareholders and government to be the most salient stakeholders regardless of industry difference.
