Article Visual Comfort and Indoor Environmental Quality in a Workplace Setting: A Case Study in Ankara, Türkiye(Univ Zagreb Fac Architecture, 2025) Avci, Ayse NihanWorkplaces are occasionally specified in locations where learning environments are placed together, and they are also found in common areas with various functions. Individuals need light, as it is a vital component of modern life that fosters a sense of comfort, health, and well-being. Lighting systems in interior architecture need to be designed according to the function of the space and individual needs. In cases where natural lighting is insufficient, comfortable, healthy, and prosperous places are designed with mixed-use lighting. Factors affecting indoor environmental quality, such as sound, color, and thermal comfort, should be designed together with lighting. This study aims to investigate the indoor environmental quality parameters of the specified workplace regarding visual comfort. Students voluntarily participated in the study. An experimental space on the first floor of the building, known as the "Common Building" of & Ccedil;ankaya University and serving as a connection point for the faculties, was chosen for the study. This type of research is crucial for ensuring that indoor environmental quality parameters are effectively utilized indoors to enhance human-centric interior design.Book Part A Study of the Thorp Green Poems of Anne Bronte: Poetic Artistry as a Cure for Her Nostalgia(Vernon Press, 2025) Sonmez-Demir, YagmurAmong the Bronte Sisters, Anne Bronte is the least studied, and the bulk of literary scholarship is on her novels. Most of the critics agree on the fact that her literary production is autobiographical. Taking my cue from the existing scholarship on Anne Bronte, I will study the poems Anne wrote when she was employed as a governess in Thorp Green by the Robinsons between 1840 and 1845. Highly influenced by the romantic poets preceding her, she shared her emotions in her poems. As her biographers (Gerin, Chitham, Langland) also noted, she felt excluded and lonely, especially at the start of her employment in Thorp Green, and she was able to visit her family only on Christmas and two weeks in June each year, which led her to develop a longing for her home and her family. An exhaustive study of her Thorp Green poems displays that she dislikes being there, experiences homesickness, and longs for the past days. With the exception of Gondal and religious poems written at that time span, she expresses her loneliness, solitude, and feelings of melancholy in the poems. When her homesickness heightened, she found solace in her memories and turned her feelings of longing into poetic creation. She either draws on her memories about her home in Haworth or uses objects in nature, such as a flower or a scenery as memorative signs to trigger her memories. According to sociologist Svetlana Boym, nostalgia can be "a poetic creation, an individual mechanism of survival, a countercultural practice, a poison, or a cure" (Boym 18). In this study, I will read Anne Bronte's Thorp Green Poems through the prism of theories of nostalgia, and argue that she wrote poems in order to deal with her nostalgia, for which her poetic creation becomes a cure.Conference Object Software Standards in Action: A Complaint-Driven Game Inspired by Real Project Failures(Fac Organization and Informatics, University Zagreb, 2025) Tunc, Sevgi KoyuncuComplaint to Compliance is a classroom-based game teaching ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207 standards through real-world complaint-driven scenarios. Managing residuals, the differences between observed and predicted values, is a key challenge. In regression, the residual penalty choice strongly affects model performance. The L<inf>2</inf>-norm penalty aligns with the least-squares approach, while the L<inf>1</inf>-norm provides robust fitting by minimizing the influence of outliers. To generalize models, the weights can be regularized using either the L<inf>2</inf>-norm or L<inf>1</inf>-norm, corresponding to Ridge and LASSO regularization, respectively. Many methods have been developed to penalize residuals and model weights, resulting in diverse cost functions optimized by specific numerical solvers. In this study, we propose the smooth L<inf>f</inf>-norm, a quasi-norm, as a unified framework for penalizing both residuals and model weights in linear models. After filtering, the imbalanced dataset was balanced with 5 different SMOTE methods and classified with various machine learning algorithms. Coarse-K-Nearest Neighbor, Bagged Trees, and Artificial Neural Networks models were evaluated in epilepsy detection. The performance of these different models was compared with Matthews Correlation Coefficient (MCC) and F1 Score metrics. As the usage of UAVs in military applications expands, the need for effective radar cross section reduction (RCSR) methods to enhance their stealth capabilities has grown significantly. In this study, we propose an enhancement of a previously developed Low-RCS UAV model, focusing on RCSR with shaping technique in the X-band. For the identification and optimization of the UAV model’s highly reflective components, a detailed simulative analysis of the RCS was performed using CST Studio Suite Environment. The modifications are applied to the body and leg components to minimize radar reflections. Simulation results demonstrated that the proposed enhancements significantly reduced RCS values compared to the original Low-RCS UAV model. A total of 13 dBsm reduction in RCS was observed compared to the traditional UAV models. Comparative analysis for different frequencies in X-Band and various aspect angles confirmed the effectiveness of the improved design, validating its potential for stealth applications. Particularly, methods based on BERT have demonstrated remarkable performance across various tasks by offering robust capabilities in deeply understanding texts semantically. However, despite these advancements, there is a notable scarcity of studies applying these technologies in the aviation sector. This paper develops a multi-class classification model for aviation-specific texts using variants of BERT. The study encompasses the processes of collecting web content related to aircraft, labeling and model training. The long history of ethnic and political tensions between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities escalated with political instability and reached its peak in 1974. Set during the heated midst of the 1974 conflict, Lefteri's novel offers multiple meanings of home through shifting focalisation. This study combines focalisation from narratology with Henri Lefebvre's the Production of Space, enriched by theories surrounding the notion of home. This analytical framework enables a comprehensive exploration of how narrative perspectives both shape and reflect the phenomenology of space in literature, particularly within conflict zones. This approach is particularly relevant for analysing divided or contested geographies, such as Cyprus in Christy Lefteri's A Watermelon, a Fish, and a Bible. By examining how characters perceive and navigate their surroundings, the analysis will reveal how "home", once seen as secure, familiar, or sacred, is redefined by conflict and how new meanings emerge in moments of crisis. Çok katmanlı bu tarihî kent merkezleri, kültür varlıklarının fiziksel ve işlevsel eskimesi, sosyo8kültürel ve ekonomik doku bozulmaları, koruma problemleri vb. sorunlarla giderek çöküntü yerleri hâline gelmektedir. Bu sorunları barındıran Niğde kentinde yapılmış koruma uygulamalarında, kentin yer altında ve yer üstünde bulunan katmanlarının dikkate alınmamış olması çalışmada problem olarak belirlenmiştir. Kentli tarafından tepe olarak algılanan çalışma alanı uzun zamandır çöküntü alanı niteliğindedir. Çalışmanın amacı, Niğde Tarihî Kent Merkezi’nin Selçuklu Dönemi’ne ait tarihî katmanını analiz etmek, haritalan8 dırmak ve bu katmanı çağdaş koruma uygulamalarına entegre etmeye yönelik öneriler geliştirmektir. Araştırma verileri, kentin tarihî gelişiminde en belirleyici dönemin Selçuklu Dönemi olduğunu göstermektedir. Bu sebeple çalışma kapsamında bu katman odak alınmıştır. Ayrıca, diğer tarihî katmanların da korunarak günlük yaşama kazandırılmasına katkı sağlamak, bu çalışmanın bir diğer hedefidir. Bu bağlamda, Selçuklu Dönemi’ne ait yer üstü ve yer altı değerlerinin sürdürülebilir korunmasına yönelik öneriler geliştirilmiştir.Editorial Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 2The Role of Cultural Heritage in Resilience Planning: Evidence From 100 Resilient Cities(Firenze Univ Press, 2025) Altay-Kaya, Deniz; Yesilbag, DamlaAs a container of accumulated experiences, cultural heritage connects past, present and future by transmitting knowledge to future generations through tangible/intangible assets. With this potential, cultural heritage can significantly contribute to community resilience, yet available resilience strategy documents place limited emphasis on cultural heritage. Based on this observed lack of systematic consideration, this paper analyses the resilience strategy documents presented in the 100 Resilient Cities Programme, and discerns six approaches towards cultural heritage, namely ignorance, economic development tool, identity construction, social component, physical integration tool, and comprehensive consideration. The paper discusses further ways cultural heritage can enhance community resilience.
