Conference Object Zero Carbon Buildings: A Realistic Approach to Climate Adaptation(Springer International Publishing AG, 2026) Harputlugil, Gülsu UlukavakClimate change continues to be a priority on the agendas of countries and governments today. The approach to this issue can gain significant importance in parallel with the severity of the effects caused by the climate crisis in different regions of the world. To minimize the destruction that climate change will cause over the next 50 years, climate adaptation and mitigation strategies are among the leading strategies of all countries. At this point, it is evident that the decisions made within the framework of the Paris Climate Agreement and the annual United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP) meetings are extremely guiding and accurate. However, within the framework of these agreements, it is necessary to develop strategies that will ensure the adaptation of existing buildings, as well as new buildings, to achieve the 2050 targets defined for the building sector. This study will discuss strategies to minimize the impacts that buildings constructed in the past decade and those that will be constructed in the next decade will face as part of the existing building stock in 2050. There is a need to evaluate the measures that can be taken today to ensure that buildings constructed according to current regulations, which can be labelled as nearly zero-energy/carbon buildings, are resilient in the 2050 and 2080 scenarios. Within the framework of this study, 2050 and 2080 climate scenarios will be examined, and suggestions will be presented by discussing how adaptable building stock can be achieved in terms of resilience.Conference Object Production and Retrieval off Rough Classes in Multi Relations(IEEE Computer Soc, 2007) Sever, Hayri; Gorur, A. Kadir; Tolun, Mehmet R.Organizational memory in today's business world forms basis for organizational learning, which is the ability of an organization to gain insight and understanding from experience through experimentation, observation, analysis, and a willingness to examine both successes and failures. This basically requires consideration of different aspects of knowledge that may reside on top of a conventional information management system. Of them, representation, retrieval and production issues of meta patterns constitute to the main theme of this article. Particularly we are interested in a formal approach to handle rough concepts. We utilize rough classifiers to propose a preliminary framework based on minimal term sets with p-norms to extract meta patterns. We describe a relational rule induction approach, which is called rila. Experimental results are provided on the mutagenesis, and the KDD Cup 2001 genes data sets.Conference Object Soundscape Evaluation of Urban Interiors by Perceived Restorativeness Soundscape Scale-Prss(INT Inst Acoustics & Vibration, 2025) Dokmeci Yorukoglu, Papatya Nur; Batur, Gulben GizemEnhanced spatial experience should support well-being, decrease users' stress, and foster a healthy connection with their surroundings. This study aims to explore the mental restoration properties and soundscape quality of urban interior spaces by assessing the interaction between auditory and visual perception. A case study was conducted in two selected urban interior spaces, and on-site surveys were administered to 92 randomly selected participants. The findings indicate that individuals in the green-dominant environment rated both the soundscape and visual scenery more favorably than those in the gray-dominant setting. In contrast, participants in the gray-dominant space found the soundscape and visual scenery more disruptive. The study also revealed a strong correlation between audio-visual elements and spatial experience, with participants' perceptions of sound and visuals aligning closely. Additionally, based on the Perceived Restorativeness Soundscape Scale (PRSS), the green-dominant space exhibited higher perceived restorativeness soundscape quality scores than the gray-dominant space.Conference Object Raising Awareness of Acoustics and Soundscaping among Interior Architecture Students and Professionals: A Brief Review and Roadmap(INT Inst Acoustics & Vibration, 2025) Dokmeci Yorukoglu, Papatya NurAcoustics play a vital role in how people experience spaces, yet it is often overlooked in interior architecture education and practice. Many professionals and students focus primarily on visual, technical, and structural elements, missing the impact that sound has on well-being, spatial quality, and experience. This study reviews existing research on the importance of acoustics and soundscaping in interior architecture education and practice, highlighting gaps in awareness and common practice. Based on these insights, a practical roadmap is proposed to better integrate acoustics into education and professional practice. By incorporating sound-conscious design projects in studio environments during undergraduate education and supporting interdisciplinary collaboration with adapting new technologies, this study aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Raising awareness at both the academic and professional levels will help create more acoustically comfortable and enhanced environments that would support user satisfaction and well-being.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 2Kinematic Analysis and Position Control of Motor Grader Blade Mechanism for Automatic Levelling1(IEEE, 2022) Ergezer, Halit; Ozkan, Ekin CansuIn this study, mechanism analysis, which is one of the necessary steps for automatic function control in construction machines, is emphasized. Motor grader construction machine has been chosen because there are a minimal number of studies in the literature. The blade mechanism of the motor grader has high degrees of freedom; it can perform various rotations and orientations in the XYZ axis. For this mechanism, which is very challenging to control and make kinematic analysis, functions that specify the motion behavior of the cutting-edge points are obtained using the polynomial surface fitting method. PI controllers were created for the MIMO system to reduce the existing steady-state error. Tests were performed for various scenarios on the actual machine, and the results were compared.Conference Object Software Standards in Action: A Complaint-Driven Game Inspired by Real Project Failures(Fac Organization and Informatics, University Zagreb, 2025) Tunc, Sevgi KoyuncuComplaint to Compliance is a classroom-based game teaching ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207 standards through real-world complaint-driven scenarios. Grounded in experiential learning, its low-tech, card-based design fosters active learning via guided discussion. A qualitative case study (n=21) analyzed student perceptions, revealing: (1) conceptual bridging of theory and practice, (2) professional identity development, and (3) enhanced engagement through gamification. The accessible design offers a scalable model for standards education. Preliminary findings suggest pedagogical value for information systems education, with further cross-cultural validation needed.Conference Object Covariance Features for Trajectory Analysis(IEEE, 2016) Karadeniz, Talha; Maras, Hadi HakanIn this work, we aimed to demonstrate that covariance estimation methods can be used for trajectory classification. We have shown that, features obtained via shrunk covariance estimation are suitable for describing trajectories. We have arrived to the conclusion that, when compared to Dynamic Time Warping, the explained technique is faster and may yield more accurate results.Conference Object The Implementation of a Successive Cancellation Polar Decoder on Xilinx System Generator(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2017) Arli, A.Ç.; Colak, A.; Gazi, O.Polar coding is the first kind of the capacity achieving codes which are defined for binary-input discrete memoryless channels initially. Parallel processing property of the FPGA allows to decode faster with a margin of complexity. Xilinx System Generator as a practical tool to construct decoding designs in shorter time is a fact. In this study, FPGA implementation of decoding polar codes through Xilinx System Generator is shown. © 2023 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Conference Object Covariance Features for Trajectory Analysis(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2016) Karadeniz, T.; Maras, H.H.In this work, we aimed to demonstrate that covariance estimation methods can be used for trajectory classification. Managing residuals, the differences between observed and predicted values, is a key challenge. In regression, the residual penalty choice strongly affects model performance. The L<inf>2</inf>-norm penalty aligns with the least-squares approach, while the L<inf>1</inf>-norm provides robust fitting by minimizing the influence of outliers. To generalize models, the weights can be regularized using either the L<inf>2</inf>-norm or L<inf>1</inf>-norm, corresponding to Ridge and LASSO regularization, respectively. Many methods have been developed to penalize residuals and model weights, resulting in diverse cost functions optimized by specific numerical solvers. In this study, we propose the smooth L<inf>f</inf>-norm, a quasi-norm, as a unified framework for penalizing both residuals and model weights in linear models. Our efficient and robust numerical minimization scheme ensures fast and accurate fitting by minimizing our novel cost function. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
