Abstract

Türkiye'de yaşanan askeri darbelerin oluşumunda dış güçlerin ne ölçüde rol oynadığı çokça tartışılan bir konudur. Türkiye'nin kendisine bölgesel ve küresel olarak rakip gördüğü ve askeri darbelerde rol oynayabileceğini düşündüğü ülkeler hep var olmuştur. Bu çalışma, 28 Şubat 1997 tarihli post-modern darbe sürecinde Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nin rolüne odaklanmaktadır. Çalışmanın temel bulgusu, ABD'nin ordunun doğrudan müdahalesine karşı olduğunu belirtirken diğer yandan da hükümete karşı ordu merkezli anti-demokratik yıpratma politikalarına yeterli tepki göstermediğidir.

Singling out external actors as main reason for military interventions is quite common in Turkey. There are many people who have claimed that regional and global rivals of Turkey played crucial roles in the making of military coups. This study focuses on the role of the United States of America in the Post-Modern coup d'etat of February 28, 1997. The main finding of the study is that while the USA said that it opposed the direct intervention of the army, on the other hand, it did not react adequately to the army-led anti-democratic policies against the government.
