Ankara: Çankaya Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü.3D hand reconstruction with binocular view(2011-12-01) Mogol, Ali Can; Çankaya Üniversitesi, Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, Bilgisayar Mühendisliği BölümüIn the field of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) one of the important goals is designing better interfaces for improving interactions between human beings and computers. There are lots of approaches to address this problem. One of these approaches is interfacing using human hand gestures. The capturing and modeling of the gestures and articulations of the human hand is a challenging problem. There exist hardware and software solutions proposed to solve this problem. In this thesis, an inexpensive fast and effective method to stereo capture and create 3D hand model is proposed. The setup used for this thesis is; five different color markers and commodity hardware consists of two web cameras and a low cost laptop computer. In this thesis, starting with the stereo calibration of the cameras, capturing and tracking the color markers attached to the finger tips, leading 2D points of the finger tips, converting the 2D points to 3D points and calculating the finger articulations according to these 3D points and modeling the 3D hand have been accomplished, so the user can see his/her own hand’s articulation on the screen as a 3D hand model.Item Citation Count: TAŞEL, F.S. Ankara: Çankaya Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü.3D reconstruction of a scene using stereo images(2008-06-20) Taşel, Faris Serdar; Çankaya Üniversitesi, Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, Bilgisayar Mühendisliği BölümüTwo-dimensional photographs do not have depth-information. One solution to determine the location of an object in three-dimensional environment is to use more than one photograph as exposed by the nature. Extracting the depth information using stereo images is purposed in this thesis. The thesis analyzes the steps and encountered problems in three-dimensional reconstruction process, explains the solutions exposed with the aid of epipolar geometry using some of the feature-based matching techniques. Stereo images which are taken from two calibrated cameras viewing the same scene are used to obtain estimated three-dimensional data. Pinhole camera model, epipolar geometry and its recovery are discussed; common stereo triangulation methods are explained in the chapters of the thesis. Besides, feature extraction and matching topics which are used for the reconstruction process are examined. Some of the methods used in the thesis are presented by algorithmic solutions and mathematical notations. Significant advantages and disadvantages of the methods are briefly discussed and encountered problems are tried to be challenged by fundamental approaches.Item Citation Count: GÜVENÇ, S.P. The method bears ideas from projective geometry as it’s basis. The main purpose of the thesis is to be able to form a base line for tracking an object in a 3D environment not only by using two stereo cameras but also by using other cameras that may be located in various points of the environment. The method visualizes the object and gives the information to a third camera. This way it can be possible to track a moving object, along with it’s visualized model, in an environment without losing sight of it and without having to move the other two stereo cameras which we received data from.Item Citation Count: ÜNAL, G. Ankara: Çankaya Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü.500MHz-2GHz broadband power amplifier design by non-linear modeling methods(2009-09-01) Ünal, Gökalp; Çankaya Üniversitesi, Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, Elektronik ve Haberleşme Mühendisliği BölümüThis thesis presents the design methods of 500MHz-2GHz broadband RF power amplifier. First of all, RF power transistor technologies are searched and the most suitable one is chosen according to its operation of frequency band, maximum output power, efficiency and cost features. The amplifier is designed as it has two stages, and in both stages LDMOS transistor technology is used as RF power transistors. Large signal models for the LDMOS devices are used in simulation, and according to the measurement results, the circuitry in simulation is tried to model at nonlinear conditions. A broadband RF-Choke structure with a new technique is developed to obtain high DC isolation and low RF loss over the desired bandwidth. Input and output matching networks and shunt feedback topology are introduced to fulfill the bandwidth requirements. Typical values of 20dB power gain, 37dBm output power, have been achieved at the most part of the frequency band of 500MHz-2GHz.Item Citation Count: ÖDEMİR, S. (2013). A genuine origin and language for the universal principles of architecture. Yayımlanmamış yüksek lisans tezi. Ankara: Çankaya Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri EnstitüsüA genuine origin and language for the universal principles of architecture(2015-08) Acar, Aktan; Çankaya Üniversitesi, Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, Matematik ve Bilgisayar BölümüToday, architectural theories are replaced by instant discoursive positions, which are mainly overwhelmed by a crisis of meaning and legitimacy. The examination of the history of architectural theories showed that those instant positions are based on the architectural theories of the 18th century. The reverse-chronological investigation of the theories of the 18th century has revealed the emancipation of architecture from its metaphysic knowledge, which distanced the theory from its origins dissociatively, in the 17th century as the reason that crisis. That knowledge was defining the particulars of architectural theory, such as origin, meaning, character, taste, and form from antiquity to the late 17th century. The research showed that those particulars constitute the universals of architecture. Their genuine origin and language defining them were structured by Vitruvius in the 1st century BC on the basis of six essential concepts: order, arrangement, symmetry, eurhythmy, propriety and economy. Those concepts have been revisited and redefined in order to reflect upon the domain itself by means of its own terminology, rather than imported concepts. This reflection, considered as a further study, would proceed towards solid and valid architectural theories corresponding the crisis of meaning and legitimacy.Item Citation Count: ELKER, S. (2008). A manufacturing system analysis combined with waste management. Yayımlanmamış yüksek lisans tezi. Ankara: Çankaya Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri EnstitüsüA manufacturing system analysis combined with waste management(2008-07-18) Elker, Sedef; Çankaya Üniversitesi, Mühendislik Fakültesi, Endüstri Mühendisliği BölümüThis thesis presents an environmentally integrated manufacturing system analysis for companies looking for the benefits of environmental management in achieving high efficiency levels. When the relationship between environmental costs and manufacturing decisions is examined, it can be seen that the productivity of the company can be increased by using an environmentally integrated manufacturing system analysis methodology. Therefore, such a methodology is proposed and the roadmap for generating environmentally friendly and economically favorable alternative waste management solutions is elaborated. The methodology consists of data collection, operational analyses of the processes, identification of wastes and evaluation of waste reduction alternatives proposed both technically and economically. The proposed methodology is examined in a car battery manufacturing company, which generates hazardous wastes composed of lead (Pb). The main focus was on the wet-charged lead-acid battery manufacturing. It is aimed to decrease the wastes derived from the production so that the efficiency in raw materials usage is increased and the need for recycling the hazardous wastes is decreased. Following the identification of waste production points, at least one alternative is proposed for the reduction of waste. Two different alternatives are proposed for the reduction of dross formation based on the results obtained from the experiments carried out. The applicability of alternative waste management solutions is investigated from operational, technical and economical point of views and benefits and limitations are identified for each of the alternatives.Item Citation Count: CORAN, A.N.N. Ankara: Çankaya Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü.A new narrow band microstrip patch filter for modern wireless applications(2014-06) Coran, Ali Najdet Nasret; Çankaya Üniversitesi, Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, Elektronik ve Haberleşme Mühendisliği BölümüA narrowband, compact, and flexible fabricated microstrip bandpass filter design is introduced in this thesis as a candidate for use in modern wireless systems. The proposed filter design is based on the use of dual-mode (two pole) patch microstrip resonator with uniform geometrical slot. This filter has the advantages of possessing much narrower and sharper performance responses as compared to single mode resonator and other conventional square patch filters. The performance of filter structures, based on dual-mode resonators, has been evaluated using Microwave office electromagnetic software package. Dual slotted patch microstrip filters have been designed at resonant frequencies 4.16 and 2.04 GHz using a substrate with a dielectric constant of 10.8 and thickness of 1.27mm.Performance simulation results show that these filter structures offer very good frequency responses in addition to narrow bands gained, compactness properties and 2nd harmonic isolation in out of band region.Item Citation Count: BATU, B. Ankara: Çankaya Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri EnstitüsüA robust key management scheme for hierarchical wireless sensor networks(2015-05) Al-Salihi, Aso Ahmed Majeed; Çankaya Üniversitesi, Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, Matematik ve Bilgisayar BölümüWireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are used in many applications such as monitoring, target tracking and military applications, etc. A network is comprised of a large number of small, cheap, computational, limited energy devices which are called sensor nodes. These nodes are randomly deployed in open area to gather information. They communicate with each other via wireless media which are, however, vulnerable to being attacked by malicious nodes that may impersonate legitimate nodes. This makes the whole network liable to being hacked. Thus, security for WSNs is needed to keep any gathered data safe and to protect the communication links between sensor nodes. Key management plays a critical role in achieving security in a WSN. In this thesis, a robust key management scheme for hierarchical WSNs depends on, and exploits, the advantage of symmetric and asymmetric key cryptography. The proposed scheme uses the SHA-1 in HMAC not unlike a symmetric key for cluster formation and encryption of the private key via ECC, such as asymmetric key cryptography. Ultimately, the proposed scheme should be used to solve all these problems mentioned above.Item Citation Count: BERKSOY, Ö.B. (2010). Ankara: Çankaya Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü.Adopting rup (rational unified process) on a software development project(2009-09-03) Taş, Tufan; Çankaya Üniversitesi, Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, Bilgisayar Mühendisliği BölümüThis thesis analyzes the process of applying Rational Unified Process (RUP) successfully on a software development project step by step. Many software development projects today have a tendency to fail on some level. Even though they may not fail entirely, they might be completed with schedule delays, budget overrun or with poor quality that do not meet the requirements of customers because of poor management and lack of necessary documentation of the project. Applying RUP avoids these major problems in a project by developing set of work products which depict the essentials of the system from requirements to detailed design before the system could be implemented. However, software development teams have an overall attitude that RUP becomes less agile and too rigid as the size of projects get smaller. The thesis will also try to prove that this opinion is not true by using tools Rational Method Composer (RMC) and Rational Software Modeler (RSM) to successfully complete the project.Item Citation Count: AKBULUT, D. Ankara: Çankaya Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri EnstitüsüAn edge matching approach for two-dimensional irregular shaped cutting stock problems(2012-08-27) Akbulut, Derya; Çankaya Üniversitesi, Mühendislik Fakültesi, Endüstri Mühendisliği BölümüIn this thesis, a two-dimensional irregular shape cutting stock problem is considered, in which a number of irregular shaped pieces are cut out of rectangular stock sheets so that waste of stock to be minimized. This is an operational problem commonly observed in metal cutting and textile industries. In the literature, there are many algorithms proposed to find optimal or suboptimal solutions for the problem. Since the problem is NP-hard, heuristic approaches predominate among the solution methodologies. In this study, a non-linear mixed integer mathematical model formulation is developed and it is tested for small sized problems. For larger scale problems, an edge matching approach is proposed to generate cutting patterns. The approach is based on positioning of the pieces in such a way that their most fitting edges are aligned together or to the borders. In this way, the total scrap and the cutting operations are minimized. On the contrary to the most of the solution methodologies in the literature, the method enables rotating pieces by any angle during the alignment process and further more it is applicable for irregular shaped stock materials. The developed procedure is tested against the traditional cutting stock approaches using benchmark test problems reported in the literature. It is found that our procedure outperforms for a large portion of these benchmark problems.Item Citation Count: DEMİREL, M. (2008). Analysis and observation on quality of service for data networks of turkish telecommunication infrastructure. Yayımlanmamış yüksek lisans tezi. Ankara: Çankaya Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü.Analysis and observation on quality of service for data networks of turkish telecommunication infrastructure(2008-06-20) Demirel, Mustafa; Çankaya Üniversitesi, Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, Elektronik ve Haberleşme Mühendisliği BölümüIn this thesis, Jitter, Delay and Packet Loss values are measured for different points on TT IP/MPLS Backbone and compared with acceptable values. Measurements are made by using TT’s Alcatel 7750-SR12 devices which run in Ankara, Konya, Kahramanmaraş and Van. During measurements the device running in Ankara is always used as resource. Each of the other points are used as targets. The transmission distances between the devices measurements are as Ankara-Dikmen distance 10 Km and Ankara-Konya 300 Km, Ankara-Kahramanmaraş 602 Km and finally Ankara-Van 1248 Km. In this way, the connection between Jitter, Packet Loss and Delay Values and transmission distance is determined During tests every measurement is performed using 1500 and 4000 Bytes divided packets. The measurement values are taken using ping command on a software called SMART which can reach all devices on TT IP/MPLS Backbone. Measurements made are calculated in a day time zone. The connection of the software by which we perform measurements to the backbone is 100 Mbps. In the measurements taken, increase in Jitter and Delay value is observed when there is an increase in packet size. At the same time, increase in Jitter and Delay value is observed when there is an increase in transmisson distance. The packet loss value is evaluated as %0 in all of the tests made on TT IP/MPLS Backbone.Item Citation Count: DURUKAN, S. (2012). Analysis of electromagnetic interference between antennas. Yayımlanmamış yüksek lisans tezi. Ankara: Çankaya Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü.Analysis of electromagnetic interference between antennas(2012-07) Durukan, Sami; Çankaya Üniversitesi, Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, Elektronik ve Haberleşme Mühendisliği BölümüIn an electromagnetic interference (EMI) phenomenon, there is at least a transmitter antenna, and a receiver antenna which is also called as a victim system. To be able to understand this phenomenon analytically, power radiation from the transmitter and power received by the victim antenna should be evaluated. Electric fields of the antennas are used for power intensity calculations. Pattern function with respect to the spherical coordinates is a very important factor in the evaluation of an antenna’s electric field. In this thesis, two fundamental cases for EMI analysis are studied. First, a dipole antenna is considered as a transmitter and a microstrip patch antenna is considered as a victim receiver. Secondly, a circular loop antenna and a microstrip patch antenna are taken into consideration as a transmitter and a receiver, respectively. For both cases, their interference mechanisms are shown analytically. The results of the calculations are shown graphically in the MATLAB simulations.Item Citation Count: REİSOĞLU, S. (2014). Ankara: Çankaya Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü.Analysis of the loads and difficulties in IPV4 to IPV6 transition(2014-05) Reisoğlu, Serap; Çankaya Üniversitesi, Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, Bilgisayar Mühendisliği BölümüThis thesis focuses on analysing of the loads and difficulties in IPv4 to IPv6. Due to the depletion of the IPv4 addresses, IPv6 transition is inevitable. Therefore all parties especially network providers, ISPs (Internet Service Providers), hardware manufacturers, software developers and goverments need to prepare itself to this transition. In this thesis obligations of all parties before and after the transition and difficulties of the transition are described in details. At the end of research activities, it is understood that IPv6 transition will be slow about five years. After this five-year period, it is expected that there will be a further speedup of IPv6 transition and IPv6 traffic will be reach more than 50% of total traffic.Item Citation Count: ER, M.B. (2013). Analysis of Turkish art music: identification of makam signatures. Yayımlanmamış yüksek lisans tezi. Ankara: Çankaya Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü.Analysis of Turkish art music: identification of makam signatures(2013-02-07) Er, Mehmet Bilal; Çankaya Üniversitesi, Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, Bilgisayar Mühendisliği BölümüThis study aims to gather more scientific-based concrete data by using computer technology and to figure out what extent the makam structure of Traditional Turkish Art Music interpreted in the compositions. For this reason, 120 compositions from Muhayyer kürdi, Acem kürdi and Kürdi makams from Traditional Turkish Art Music were analyzed by computer program in terms of makam and gained data were compared with the makam structure of Traditional Turkish Art Music. Also, makam of the composition is being tried to determine with the help of computer software. Musical note‟s frequency of usage, usage duration and effectiveness level were calculated and progression analysis of the scales in the compositions were done. It was seen that data gained by research show parallelism to a large extent with the makam structure of the Traditional Turkish Art music. In addition, thanks to computer software the makam of the composition can be determined but it is seen that the definition of the progression cannot be expressed by mathematical data with the gained data.
